I suggest nothing. What should we do about President Carter?
If that’s how you feel, your local board of education may be the better body of people to propose this too.Martin Luther King and his history should also be taken out of the history books because he took a a very disgriminative view toward gays and it is well documented.
I suggest the same for Muir.I suggest nothing.
And I shall not be doing anything about either person.I suggest the same for Muir.
If you want to be consistent and cancel some members of society such as John Muir who was born in 1838 then cancel others. He is now being canceled so why shouldn’t you adhere to the same logic and agree that all people and their history should be looked at, not just some selected ones.gam197:![]()

Well, that’s not a complete sentence. I don’t know what it is meant to communicate. Also, your usage of the term “cancel” doesn’t appear to be consistent and has been broadening. This adds to the ambiguity of your intended message. If you want to be consistent and cancel some members of society.
Over and over on these forums you post on threads where people are being canceled and yet somehow you are not interested in the topic?JonNC:![]()
And I shall not be doing anything about either person.I suggest the same for Muir.
Sorry, I don’t see a connection between the message that I wrote and your response. The form of the message also looks a little odd.Over and over on these forums you post on forums where people are being canceled and yet somehow you are not interested in the topic?
Me neither. In fact, I shall do nothing aboutJonNC:![]()
And I shall not be doing anything about either person.I suggest the same for Muir.
You do not like the word cancel so much so you changed the Headline I posted on a thread from “canceled” to “suspended” Whether the message is odd or not, you consistently chose to post on threads where people are being canceledgam197:![]()

Whether you call Sierra Club or not, you are posting an opinion on these forums. You apparently believe it is fine for people to be canceledHow do you infer a position of interest from my inaction on what some private organization is choosing to make in its branding? How do you infer a position of interest from me not suggesting any action against President Carter?
I’ve got no problem with that. If someone wants to point out the imperfections that these people had I have no problem with that either. It’s part of them, and part of their history.other than defend the good things they did for our nation.
As a kid, we were told he had teeth made of wood. Later, I was told that his teeth were sourced from slaves. IT has me wondering why we were told the wood story. I can understand not telling little kids that he had teeth from slaves. But why tell anything at all if that’s not something that one wants the kids to know?Washington
I agree.I’ve got no problem with that. If someone wants to point out the imperfections that these people had I have no problem with that either. It’s part of them, and part of their history.
Reminds me of Tug McGraw’s “ Flying Snowball in Space” theory. But hey, so long as I’m dead before such a change occurs, it is just an idle curiosity.
“If I come in to pitch with the bases loaded and heavy hitter Willie Stargell is at bat, there’s no reason I want to throw the ball. But eventually I have to pitch. So I remind myself that in a few billion years the earth will become a frozen snowball hurtling through space, and nobody’s going to care what Willie Stargell did with the bases loaded.”
I’ve got no problem with the word “cancel.”You do not like the word cancel so much
Yes, the previous title just caused misunderstandings throughout the thread. People understood it to mean the person in question was fired, when in fact the school was looking into an alleged issue reported by a student and had not made any conclusion or disciplinary decision yet.changed the Headline I posted on a thread from “canceled” to “suspended”
I point out the wording is odd as a part of saying that there is ambiguity in parts of your message. Whatever it is that you may have attempted to communicate to me was not successfully communicated.Whether the message is odd
Yes, I am. Isn’t that why many people are here? We share opinions here.you are posting an opinion on these forums.
Since you haven’t clarified your usage of the word “Cancelled” I don’t know what the conclusion is that you are making here. But I think it is generally a better idea to ask someone how they feel about something rather than tell them. You apparently believe it is fine for people to be canceled
That’s a bad guess. If you want to affect change in how something is taught, the body of people that make decisions for the school are the people to speak to. If you’ve got a question about a message, just ask.And I guess you claim consistency by saying go to your local school boards and have a look at Martin Luther King.
No, I don’t.You know that schools are not going to look Martin Luther King 's rhetoric.
lol, that’s an optimistic use of cosmic insignificance.“If I come in to pitch with the bases loaded and heavy hitter Willie Stargell is at bat, there’s no reason I want to throw the ball. But eventually I have to pitch. So I remind myself that in a few billion years the earth will become a frozen snowball hurtling through space, and nobody’s going to care what Willie Stargell did with the bases loaded.”

Thanks John. I appreciate that additional information.
Whether the teeth provided by the Mount Vernon enslaved people were simply being sold to the dentist for any patient who needed them or intended for George Washington, is unknown. Since Washington paid for the teeth it suggests that they were either for his own use or for someone in his family. It is important to note that while Washington paid these enslaved people for their teeth it does not mean they had a real option to refuse his request.
EXPLORE WASHINGTON’S LEDGER
While it may seem particularly gruesome, a perfectly acceptable means of making money was by selling teeth to dentists. Since at least the end of the Middle Ages, very poor people have sold their teeth for use in both dentures and in tooth transplant operations to benefit those wealthy enough to afford these procedures. Healthy incisors, preferably from young, healthy donors, were necessary for transplantation. Whereas, teeth used in dentures could be either incisors or molars and might even be taken from corpses.2

John Muir who was born in 1838 is now having his name removed from the Sierra Club That is what I mean by cancel.gam197:![]()

I don’t know what city, county, or state that you are in. I don’t know what country you are in. I don’t know anything about the educational system where ever you are or the attitudes of the people there. But if you feel that such a request will be ineffective, then I won’t challenge you on that as you know more about the people in what ever your locality is than I do.
Names get removed all the time. That is a pretty light usage of the word “cancel.” By that definition, I was “cancelled” when I left my job for a new one and my name was removed from the desk I occupied, or when my high school removed a trophy from their shelf that had my name on it from a competition I won years after I had won it.John Muir who was born in 1838 is now having their name removed from the Sierra Club That is what I mean by cancel.
