Sounds like you are due for a new forum screen name. I took the liberty of suggesting one for you in your above quote.
Captain Vatican would be better–and he would be an awesome super hero 😛

As the daughter of a WWII Vet, I fly my American Flag every day. I fly it in honor of those who have gone to war & fought & or died for this country in order for me to be able to practice my religion in freedom. As will as all my other freedoms. We had an eye opening experience at the Easter Vigil this year. A young Syrian woman was Baptized & Comfirmed into the Church. At end end of the Mass, she was allowed to speak a few words to the congregation. In short, she told us that we as Americans don’t know how lucky we are to live in a country that allows the freedom to practice the religion of our choice. When she was born, her Mother was unable to get her Baptized in fear of retaliation. She told us never to take our freedoms for granted. We would not want to be living as some others are. She had the whole Church in tears. I will always proudly fly my American Flag.
👍 Amen. God Bless America and all of our service men and women! 🙂

I’m buying a Vatican flag and waving it from my house this Fourth of July, since the past ten years have really sapped whatever bits of patriotism I had in my blood.

Join me. Ebay sellers have really inexpensive flags, under $9.

This is a way to show where your loyalties now lie, in Post-America.
I disagree… the people who are willing to fly the American flag are the people who are NOT destroying this country.

True Americans need show are stars and stripes.

BTW - want to hear something messed up… flying the American flag (or any flag) is against my home owners association. So some vets are flying HUGE flags as a protest.

Good for those vets! 👍

It should be against the law to prohibit anyone from flying the American flag.

I will never wave any flag other than the Stars & Stripes, on July 4 or any other day.

The USA has done great things, and always will. Is it perfect? No. But that’s no reason to disrespect the flag and what it represents, by flying any other flag on July 4 (assuming you are American).
Flying the US flag is representing that you stand by the US and believe in what it was founded on…At least this is what I think, but anyone can clearly see, the US today is NOT the US the founding fathers had in mind…I actually think if they could see whats going on today, they would be shocked more americans are not fighting it, and the fact so many seem to be blind to what is happening in their once great nation.

On the other hand, while the Constitution, Bill of rights, etc are fairly ‘all encompassing’, I do not think the founding fathers had the foresight to predict whats going on in the US today and how its being changed into something much different, right under everyones noses. There was just no way possible they would have been able to predict the extreme complexity of this slow methodical process thats going to lead to a tyrannical government with its tentacles in every aspect of every living americans lives.

I don’t know - the old yellow and white just doesn’t have the same zing to it as the old red white and blue.

There’s a good explanation for that. The Vatican flag (and that of the Holy See) violates a vexillogical principle that you don’t place metal next to metal—in this case, the argent and the or (otherwise known as white and yellow) are side-by-side. As a result, its visual impact is not as striking.

The United States flag, on the other hand, is a well-designed and laid out banner that properly lays out its proper tinctures, not placing metals next to colours, and where colour meets colour, it’s only between the stripes and the canton. As a result, it’s visual impact is significant, which can account for the United States flag being an extremely powerful (and perhaps in some places, feared) national symbol.

Americans, proudly and gratefully fly your American flags on the fourth of July.

Your politicians are not your country.

Those Americans who oppose immoral laws are just as American as those who espouse them. The flag belongs to all of you.
Indeed. The US is more than politics.

Actually, I would say that the Stars and Stripes power (and/or fearsomeness) has more to do with the nation it represents – and her military, economic power, and foreign policy.

FYR Macedonia’s former flag (the Star of Vergina on a crimson background) is visually very striking. Russia’s tricolour – not so much.

Tell me which one you would find to be a more powerful or fearsome image if it were suddenly flying on your border.

I’m just talking visuals. The United States flag IS visually powerful.

I would rather wave the Confederate flag or the Gadsden flag. They both represent conservative resistance to a corrupt government.

People in the USA have no idea what a truly corrupt government is really all about. Try “the police stop you and demand a bribe to not give you a speeding ticket,” (like in Mexico) or “the trial’s outcome is preordained before you begin it” (like in Iran, North Korea And many other countries) or "we have legal slavery in 2016 (like in a dozen African nations).

Yep. I’ll fly the U.S. flag, like I do everyday, including the far too many where I’m disgusted at the current state of affairs.
On this D-Day, the above quote is from the son of a WWII vet and grandson of Christian Syrian immigrants.

The CONFEDERATE flag? Oh that’s a great thing to remember and stand up for…Slavery and racial hatred.

I’m NOT patriotic. But I do support those who have died for me so that I may have rights and freedoms that most others do not get to enjoy. These are the real US heroes! To heck with politicians.

Sadly, that’s what many on both sides of the equation have come to believe it stands for.
Of course many believe the U.S. flag stands for the exact same things…

Maybe the Gadsden flag does, but not the Confederate flag. Please, do not lump them together. That is just offensive.

Honestly, I find the waving of any flag, other than the beautiful red, white, and blue of the United States of America, on the 4th of July to be missing the point of what the 4th of July represents. It is Independence Day! It was the birth of our country. Let’s leave current politics out of it. It is still the only country in the world I would choose to live in.
