Now, as to mass, by all means feel free to participate - except please refrain from receiving the Holy Eucharist. That must wait until it is assured that you fully comprehend the totality and immensity of the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, as per Catholic belief.

You are embarking on a wonderful, grace-filled journey through life to an eternity enjoying the beatific vision. Talk about a “personal relationship with Christ”!

It is unparalleled.

Thank you, po. I guess I was just getting impatient. All will be well. God is on His throne. Incidentally I have some good friends in the Catholic Church already, but they are not at this service. So I feel kind of lonely. But I feel the benefits - no regrets.

It’s a good sign that you’re impatient because it shows your eagerness and desire to be incorporated into the mother Church. Know that by your desire that God recognizes it.

The process, or formality of entering the Church is slow, perhaps if compared to what they do in Protestant churches.

However the process itself should be ragarded as a grace where you will rejoice and take pleasure in the journey. And of course you are not prevented from attending mass. Bask in it and try to observe and understand what is happening as the mass goes along.

You are as good as a Catholic by your desire.

I can’t advice you much since I am a cradle Catholic but the experience of posters here are wonderful. Thus what you are going through perhaps is not much different from theirs.

Thank you po. I will gladly take the class es. If I can’t take them at my parish of choice I will go to another. In the SF Bay are numerous Catholic churches thank God.

Hi…and welcome…my wife became Catholic in April last year…she also was formerly United Methodist…she went through RCIA even though she had been coming to mass with me for a few years…she told me she was amazed what she had learned at RCIA…so much she had never been taught as a Protestant…one of the classes was about Mary…where she learned her role according to scripture…as a Protestant she never learned that in any classes she took at her United Methodist church…the only time Mary was mentioned was Christmas…and only then as the Mother of Jesus…that is only one example of things that she had never been taught …in a way she was upset that many things she learned in RCIA were clearly scriptural and that she had been denied learning about them as a Protestant because it didn’t fit with their theology…it was a real eye opener to her…good luck on your quest

I have been going to mass for two Saturdays now (without participating).

The priest’s homily is a blessing to me. I told him I wanted to talk to him and he said contact him after the holidays. Today I made an appointment with him for Jan 10. He seems like he is very busy. He knows I want to join. I asked if anyone else could help means he said no the main pastor is too busy.

I need encouragement from you.

I might add I went to a Catholic chatroom and was respectfully chatting. The moderator was cold to me and later banned me from the room.

I realize I will face obstacles along the way.

I was a born and brought up Methodist until I converted at the age of 44 to the Catholic faith. I am now 69 and still view my conversion as the best thing I had done.
Speak to a priest about RCIA
 
Be patient; ALL good things take time.

It is NOT unusual for Pastors to work 70 or more hours per week. On a parish they must wear many “hats”

Be assured you have time with him.

As a FYI:

The NORMAL path for entry into the RCC is through a program called RCIA [Rites of Initiation for Christian Adults] which most often begins in September and concludes at Easter ; so do not be too surprised if Father determines that you should wait until the next program. It’s his call

With the priests so overworked, what happens when you really need a priest?
 
I think it is like everybody else who has a job and responsibilities. You may get him if he is available or you have to wait. 🙂

But it is a good question. For example, we need priest urgently if we are dying, to give us the sacrament of the last rite / anointing of the sick. Sometimes he / none is available. Reality is like that.
 
As you probably already know, faith is like any worthwhile relationship. There may be some trials but hopefully mostly joy. May the Holy Spirit work within you. God wants you to be closer to Him. Welcome, and blessings to you on your journey. May it bear much fruit.
 
If someone is in danger of death or there is a true emergency, the parish should have a number to call to get in touch with a priest. You may not get the priest you are familiar with, but another should be available.
