Typical mormonisum: define the meaning of the word “is”…
If it doesn’t make sense redefine the words, switch them around, turn the definition upside down…if that doesn’t work, just claim the arguement and the arguer an anti-mormon. sigh…

This is truely exausting! trying to get Mormons to open their eyes to the truth is like trying to teach a donkey to tap dance! The best thing one can do is make sure that there are people out there to give info to non-mormons that counter the lies of the occult. Once one hears the secrets of the mormon belief and choose to stay, are those who do not wish to know the real truth or christ. Because of Utah, the mormons will be a little bigger than the jehova witnesses, however they will never be big enough to corrupt the world if we concentrate on revealing there lies to those who have not been sucked in yet or are new converts. There are only 13 million members and atleast 25% of them are still in the books but have chosen to no longer practice the belief. Utah is populated with close to 64% mormons however the percentage is dropping! There is money in the occult, but the lord is far from there claims and because of this they will never succeed in tainting the earth in the magnitude they desire. watch “the book of mormon vs. the Bible” and also read the book called “the 26th wife” which is of the journal of one of Youngs wifes, which will expose some of the darkness of the false prophet!

Numbers show who is fruitful and who is not! There are over 1.2 Billion catholics and are only 13 Million mormons. Remember really 75% of that claim is accurate, leaving under 10 million blind. There are around 8 million jehova witnesses out there so dont be too concerned that the world is going to fall victim to this false prophet JS and friends! There are 2.5 Billion Christians all together (not including the occult) and standing together we can exterminate this ignorance that has left these few blind to the light!

I wasn’t commenting on the possibility of life on the sun just that its funny that Stephen Hawking proposes the same thing the Brigham Young did. I think it’s funny or ironic especially when set against this thread, don’t you? Come on Hawking proposes the same thing as Young, maybe the details are different but the idea is the same.
Indeed.

(grin)

Well, it DOES rather mess up the joke for those who are ridiculing JS for speculating about life in the sun. 😉

Fair enough, but Stephen Hawking didn’t found any religion and isn’t claiming to be receiving direct revelation from God, either.
Neither were JS or BY when they were talking about this stuff…and that is allowed, you know, for prophets not to know everything. Knowing everything, after all, is called ‘omniscience,’ and I think that this quality is reserved for God, isn’t it? As well, if there has only ever been One perfect Man Who has ever lived, then every body else is IMperfect, up to and including JS and BY. Shoot, as I have mentioned at least once, even Moses is not only allowed to be imperfect, HE is allowed to have his imperfections canonized as scripture. After all, bats AREN’T birds.

It utterly astounds me how it’s only those who disagree with Mormonism that insist that Joseph Smith be perfectly knowlegable and perfectly…perfect. We don’t. God sure doesn’t.

None of Jesus’ first Apostles were perfect, y’know. None of them were omniscient, either, and since all we have of their opinions is in the specific religious writings they share with us in the NT, we really have no idea what their opinions about life elsewhere might be. It may well be possible that they believed that the sun revolved around the earth, come to think of it. 🤷

…but that doesn’t make them any less apostles and prophets, does it?

Diana

No, they aren’t birds. However, the term translated “birds” is from the Hebrew 'op, which covers anything that flies. Be that as it may, we cannot compare such things to modern scientific classifications.
…but that doesn’t make them any less apostles and prophets, does it?
No… JS or BY imperfections do not mean they aren’t prophets or apostles. Them saying that there are dozens of different gods, that Christ was once not a god, etc. does.

Are you going to compare a zoological classification based on observation with the claims made in the quoted sections of Brigham Young? Did Moses ever say that there were cud chewing rabbits on the moon??
You are kidding, right?

The point is, if you can accept one prophet who makes inaccurate scientific statements, then you cannot condemn another for making inaccurate scientific statements…and let’s face it: Moses’ inaccurate statements, being codified into law that actually could (and probably did) get women KILLED, were a little more pertinent to life, religious thought and the beliefs of those who followed him than whether Brigham Young ‘rather thought’ (and “I rather think there are” are his exact words, by the way) that there was life on/in the sun/stars.

…and no world renowned scientist has come along to support MOSES’ statements. One HAS come along to support BY’s, however speculative and facetious you think his support may be. 😉 By the way, I saw that documentary too, and his support for the idea may be speculative, but NOT facetious.

…by the way, the next time you claim that JS said, or wrote, that there were six foot men dressed like Quakers living on the moon, please provide the citation. That is, not a second hand 40 to 50 year old memory, but something JS wrote, or a speech to which more than one witness heard him say so. You know, something reasonable.

I agree there is a world of difference between so called prophets who claim direct revelation from God that is applicable (scripture) to all people and scientists who speculate about possibilities. I just thought it was funny.

In the original post I was going to add a disclaimer stating that in no way did I believe Youngs comment on solar life added any credibility to his claim to being a prophet, maybe I should have.🙂
Why should you? WE don’t believe that his “I rather think that there are” statement of a belief that there might be life in/on the sun says anything one way or the other about his prophethood. If we don’t, why in the world should you?

LOL! Does everyone like how dino disregarded the fact that the false prophets taught blasphemy (many Gods)

Something reasonable…like, God having physical relations with Mary?

Gee, I wonder what would happen if I wrote 'typical Catholicism…[insert some random, incomprehensible and completely irrelevent charge here ]?"

Actually, no, I don’t wonder. I know exactly what would happen.

Would you care to be a little more specific? Exactly how have we defined the word ‘is’ in a manner that differs from that of the dictionary?

Or…to which post is the above a response?

Do you care?

WOW! temper, temper! some one has a short fuse

Now this is truly a strange post. You are claiming that there are over a billion Catholics (as well there should be; you guys have been around long enough!) but that the world isn’t going 'to fall victim" to Mormonism because there are 8 million Jehovah’s Witnesses?

???

By the way, just as an aside and ONLY because you brought up the argument…if the percentage of people who are not active Mormons is some sort of proof that our faith is not true, then what does the fact that over half of all
Catholics in the world are not practicing say about your own faith? You really need to be careful about what claims you make in order to disprove someone else’s faith, lest that same claim be used against you.

The fact is, truth is not measured either by the numbers of people who believe it, or by the length of time it was believed. If it were, we would all still be worshiping Ra and Isis.

No, they aren’t birds. However, the term translated “birds” is from the Hebrew 'op, which covers anything that flies. Be that as it may, we cannot compare such things to modern scientific classifications.
Of course we can. You are claiming that BECAUSE JS and BY may have been incorrect about life on the moon and in the sun (and I say “may’ because we have no decent proof that JS said anything about men on the moon, and let’s face it; BY’s “I rather think there is” when speculating about life on/in the sun is not exactly a ringing 'Thus Saith the Lord!” proclamation, is it? ) that they are not prophets.

Since being scientifically inaccurate didn’t stop Moses from being a prophet, then by the same standard, it can’t stop JS or BY…or anybody else, for that matter…from being a prophet.
No… JS or BY imperfections do not mean they aren’t prophets or apostles.
thank you. That’s the only point that needs to be made in this thread.
Them saying that there are dozens of different gods, that Christ was once not a god, etc. does.
…and that is a topic for an entirely different thread, and is thus a bit of a red herring for THIS one. 😉

LOL! Does everyone like how dino disregarded the fact that the false prophets taught blasphemy (many Gods)
‘dino?’

Jake, you lost this one. Go to the next argument and don’t use this one again, because it is far too easily debunked.

I never said that because JS and BY said there may be Quakers on the moon that means they are not prophets. A strong indication, maybe. However, my only point there was that Moses basing his classification of hares as cud chewing animals based on his observation that that is what it looks like they are doing, is quite different than saying there are people on the sun.
…and that is a topic for an entirely different thread, and is thus a bit of a red herring for THIS one. 😉
Inasmuch as there is an actual topic on this thread lol

Dino, I could care less if you do not like my post or if it makes sense to you! The point in reference to the jehova witnesse, is that no one sees them as a real threat in growth and nore should anyone be concerned with the mormons. I am still on the mormon books and have many others who are also. One friend threatened to sue the occult if they did not take them off and they did. I am looking to do the same and I have not been mormon for over ten years now!

I was, actually 🙂

Something reasonable…like, God having physical relations with Mary?
ARRAGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH…[cough…wiping keyboard keys…picking up my soda…]

you did that on purpose, didn’t you?
