Do you have access to the other four? We might see increasing megalomania, if my psychological theories are right.

What is meant by “Revival” and “Religious Corruption”?

Revival-- camp meeting, preaching to everyone to come up and get saved-- a la Billy Graham

corrupted-- All religions are corrupted, develop your own.

Allegedly, there were many revivals in the area (historians differ on the facts of that claim) and so Joseph was confused so he prayed to God and God showed up.

Allegedly, according to some versions, God told Joseph that ALL the churches were corrupt and he should join none of them.

Oh-- OK the first one he saw God. Then he was confronted with the contradiction with scripture. .

irr.org/mit/first-vision/fvision-accounts.html
  • A local revival caused him to wonder which church was right, it had never occurred to him all were wrong
  • age 14 (1820)
  • he was in a grove
  • had a vision of two personages
  • One identifies the other as his son (by implication God the Father and Jesus, but not explicitly stated)
  • Was told all churches are wrong and is to join none of them
  • Claimed to come under great persecution
  • Fell into all kinds of temptations
  • Three years later has vision of an angel
This is the one in Pearl of Great Price, and therefore is the “Official” one. Dated 1838, so he went back to his first one-- increasing megalomania confirmed.

Yes…I think they took a vote and this is the version that won…lol

This is just an obervation, but there seems to be an awful lot of disscusion about Mormonism on a Catholic forum, My self, I havent been a member of Holy Joe’s Church in 15 years, and I’m wondering what’s all the renewed interest?

Oh-- my-- this has been going on for yeeeeears. check the history. moderating policy is much better now. used to get pretty nasty.

i have a couple friends at school who both say they dont really believe anything the church teaches and didnt even know that there were many different versions it seemed i knew more about there beliefs then they did to be honest. I thought mormons or LDS if you prefer were more hardcore about there religion 🤷
