Why quote a passage instead of answering the claims of your interlocutor?
Well the person is claiming that anyone who listens to Joyce is pretty much stupid and gullible, very rude thats why I quoted the passage. He must not have something right in his heart to say such a thing.

It’s possible that he thinks her message is as he described it. Isn’t that what you should be answering if you think he is wrong? You can’t know what’s in his heart so why not keep the discussion fixed on what is said rather than on your surmises about what his motives are?

Its not a big deal, I watch Mother Angelica as well as Joyce, jeez the arrogance of some people here is unreal.

To the OP, God gave you free will, use it however you want to its between you and God not people on this forum.

Yes, that’s what I would expect, My JW sister in law quotes scripture at me when not being able to put up a credible defence for the nonsense spewed out by the watch tower.
I do apologise if I have offended any one, I don’t mean to be rude, however Joyce Meyer doesn’t apologise for offending me.

She has never said anything bad about Catholics or the Catholic faith…

Such a style ofevangelists were part of the reason I walked away from the Baptist church in the first place. It seemed like my church was focused on what I’ve now termed 'feel-good theology which seemed to target people in terms of making them feel good about themselves, with liberal sprinklings of words like ‘relationship with Jesus’ and being ‘saved’. When I queried as to doctrines on matters such as Hell, or forgiveness of sin, or even the concept of the Messiah, I was either given quite unsatisfactory answers or simply told it was not as important as I was making it to be.

To my mind, looking back it was like being hungry and then, rather than eating a proper dinner, eating junk.

Yes I love her!!!

Don’t listen to those who call her a heretic just because she doesnt follow the Catholic faith
She could not be called a “heretic” unless she at one time embraced the Catholic faith and then rejected it.

I don’t think that’s the case with JM.

So you see someone who has contrasting beliefs with you and you automatically and systematically close yourself off to these things? This is the very definition of close-mindedness.

what Joyce Meyers teaches and promotes she claims is what the Bible teaches. Now coming from your background and belief system to you its all the same. However, The word of faith teaching which really is the latest dressed up version are ideas that came about in the early Pentecostal movement in the 1900. The health/wealth gospel is not at all been taught in historic Christianity which includes Catholic, Orthodox and Protestantism. While to you it may be all bunk and what’s the difference, what she and the others like her and before her misleads people into thinking that God is one big candy machine and that one isn’t suppose to have any sufferings according to God’s will. This is totally not true, not taught in the Bible at all if one really looks at the total of scripture, not just the cherry picked verses that these people string together to promote what they teach as Biblical.

As if we had time to waste on everything on TV or the Internet.

For saint reading that are more current, have you tried “Story of a Soul” by St. Theresa of Liseaux?
What amazed me is that she lost her mother at age 5. She writes about that in her only book. Now someone who went through that kind of trauma as a child yet wanted at age 15 to become a Carmelite nun and dedicate her life to prayer is someone of “real” faith. I think that is what you are looking for “real faith” not the pop fizz promoted by Joyce and others.
Thanks and you’re right I’ve had my share of pop fizz spirituality. I need something “real” at this point in my life. I’ll look for that book on Amazon.

Is it OK for Catholics to read and watch Joyce Meyer?
I don’t think it would be a sin. 🤷 But I don’t see why any Catholic would want to. Doesn’t she promote the prosperity gospel? I don’t remember because I have not watched her in years, so don’t take my word for that. However, regardless, I think you will get some truth, mixed in with a lot of untruth. The ratio of truth to nonsense, I don’t know 😃

Why not just watch EWTN?

As a convert, it took me several years to decide to enter the Catholic Church. It required me to go through 8 months of RCIA and through tumultuous times in my family and personal relationships. I say all this to say that I am constantly amazed that so many Catholics want to attend Protestant services or listen to Protestant teachers! I mean, the fullness of the faith is here in the Catholic Church and a lot of us had to cross many rivers to get here. So please people, embrace the gift that so many of you have been blessed to be born into and to have been a part of for ALL of your lives.
I’ve been in RCIA almost a year and I feel the same way. So many of the preachers water everything down so they can keep their congregation in the pews and not offend anyone. One of my neighbors is Catholic and her family has been going to a mega church because she said they like the music. I can’t believe anyone would fore go the mass and the Eucharist to listen to music. I like music too but it shouldn’t be the be all and end all of your worship.

Listen to Mother Angelica, Kimberly Hahn, Fr. Larry Richards, Deacon Alex Jones… They’re on YouTube.

I have intelligent friends who love Meyer. I entertained watching her. I read about her scrapes with the IRS, how low she was rated by a ministerial finance agency about her fiscal integrity and transparency… And her $30,000 commode. Nice smack on the face to me! Give me our humble, salt of the earth teachers any day!

Here is an article by a Baptist preacher calling her and Joel Osteen out for their false teachings. It has sound clips of some of her more dangerous ones. These aren’t taken out of context. Sadly, as I posted yesterday, my mother is into their movement. She says these exact same lines all the time.

I don’t see anything wrong with watching Joyce Meyer. I think one thing that Protestants do better than Catholics is showing people how to live their faith in practical ways and solve problems from a Christian outlook. Reading Aquinas or St. Francis de Sales or any of the other good Catholic books might give an intellectual approach but does not seem to help with everyday problems of living.

Listen to Fr. Larry Richards talk and you’ll change your mind!

El Shaddai is our own home grown health and wealth gospel. Perhaps Meyer is not so heretical after all.
