If Tanach can also be seen as pious fiction then perhaps you may elaborate on the specific flaws you see in the NT. A Jewish rebuttal to my post for example would be good.
I didn’t say that I saw the Tanakh as pious fiction, I said I saw the ‘NT’ as pious fiction in the same sort of way that a Christian would see the Qur’an or Book of Mormon as pious fiction.

Asking me to relate the contents of a fiction to passages of the Tanakh is pretty pointless, isn’t it?

ooooh. We don’t usually use such big words in the US (like “contection”: usually we say “candy,” like “Chicago is the candy capital of the world.” or was:( ).

that you are avoiding

Judaism/Christianity#2.

I think Tanakh falls somewhere in there.😛
I wonder if even you know what you’re talking about.

Wesley7;:
What are the main reasons Orthodox Jews reject the New Testament?
From an Orthodox Jewish POV, there is nothing in the Tanakh that suggests that it has any relationship whatsoever, with the NT, much less the teachings, practices, doctrines, and beliefs of the various groups that use the NT, either as their only sacred text, or as one part of their sacred text.

Soooo how was it that so many believers in the OT and later the Tanakh related its contents to the NT?

Again, you have merely restated your assertion, not substantiated it. Nor explained how the Tanakh is a pious fiction (yes, I know you didn’t say it was, you’ve avoided answering that question).

I can say that for me, Mormon seems much like a Masonic/Kaballistic/Dharmic attempt to create a pagan Samaria here in the USA, with men ascending to godhood and such.

While the Quran seems somewhat valid, for Ishmael, in order to bring he and Isaac under the one God of Abraham.

That’s what I mean by specifics.

Actually, it’s for Christians to establish that it’s something other than pious fiction, not for me to show that it is.

The NT is a confection attempting to show that a revered figure was Messiah and, beyond that, God by manipulation of text and meaning - like biting the bits off jigsaw pieces in an attempt to make them fit. In other words, text in the NT ‘fits’, where it appears to ‘fit’, because it was constructed to do so.

And of course the NT doesn’t fit the Talmud, because the latter is made to not fit the former.

And of course the NT doesn’t “fit” the Tanakh because the Masorites, centuries later, decided, for instance 'almah in Isaiah, instead of what it was translated BEFORE Christ “parthenos” wouldn’t do.

There’s a point there somewhere?

You said
Well, Christians reject a whole range of pious fictions - the Qur’an and the Book of Mormon, to name but two. We just reject one more than Christians.
To the question
My favorite subject.

What are the main reasons Orthodox Jews reject the New Testament?
Are you an Orthodox Jew, or just claiming to speak for them?

Are you a Christian, or just claiming to speak for them?

If you are neither, then it’s your job to substantiate your allegation.

Or we can conclude you can’t, and judge accordingly.

This is the ‘catherine wheel’ approach to discussion, I take it?

No, cross examination to impeach testimony. Yes, I know you’re taking the Fifth.
I meant like the firework which is fixed to a support, lit and then spins around spluttering in all directions but, ultimately, goes nowhere.

Pointless post.
Me thinks the rabbit doth protest too much.

Before wasting more time in a spiral of personal posts, let’s point out that either 1) your remarks are so self evident that the NT is confection (candy) and only pious fiction, and I lack the intelligence to see that, or 2) you made some remarks, not expecting to have to defend them, and having been called on them, you are at a loss to substantiate them.

I leave it to the readers to decide which.
