A quite disturbing state of affairs over here.

A senior judge ruled yesterday that Christian beliefs have no place in the law and no right to protection by the courts.

Lord Justice Laws said that Britain would become a religious dictatorship if the views of a single faith were given a priority over others in legal matters.

In a landmark case, the appeal judge told relationship guidance counsellor Gary McFarlane, a Christian, that he had no right to refuse to give sex therapy to gay couples.

This case has been going on for awhile. From what I understand, his employer fired him for not taking the case. If this is true, them I am at odds with it, it would be like a Pro-Life Dr being employed by PP and fired for not performing an Abortion. But on the otherhand one should be allowed a personal faith. Yes. However, the interpretation seems to be discretionary rather than strict.

It’s a wig. And under the circumstances when one is seething, one also hopes we have a heat wave and he stews in it. What folly.

I am not really sure about the whole case to be honest. I mean if he was employed and knew that he would have to treat SS couples, then I don’t see an issue really. As again its like a pro-life Dr getting a job at a PP clinic. Its much like pharmacists refusing to fill prescriptions.

We must all insist that our Politicians put “Conscience Clauses” in all Laws.

Otherwise governements (including the USA) can prosecute individuals for their Religious beliefs, under hate crimes, etc.

If we all don’t get our acts together, it’s coming.

Obama’s health care bill does not have a “Conscience clause”. (Yet about 80 Nuns and the CHA did not care when they sent their letter of support in opposition to our Bishops.)

There is a simple solution, the therapist should advise the couple that their problem is the unnatural, gravely disordered and sinful nature of their relationship. The law states that you must not discriminate not that you cannot give your professional opinion.

That’s great. He probably would have been fired anyway, but he would go out with a bang. I guess I would not have a big deal with the employer having the right to fire someone if there wasn’t so many other areas of special protection that were far more ridiculous.

Not a laughable outlandish statement as some might think.

These people believe that homosexual couplings are morally licit. If I offer other romantically involved people therapy, I have to give them the same. I might not think that interracial coupling is morally licit, but the government has determined that if I offer a particular service, I cannot refuse to offer that service on the basis of race, gender, or sexual orientation.

It’s wrong, and I can’t believe that the counselors would be treated like this, but I understand the convoluted morality it comes from.

I think everyone should be more scared if Christians were given special legal rights in any country. This would open the door to any religious group receiving preferential treatment. Sure, all is well and good when the law favors Christians, but what happens when a different religion, one completely at odd with Christianity, starts to receive more special exemptions?

I think that the separation of religion and government is helping Christianity as much as it is hurting it.

Not quite the full story.

The guy refused to pay the fine and had his day in court where the case was dropped by the crown prosecution services due to lack of evidence,

He was charged under section 5 of the Pulic Order act - the correct charge to file against him. He had been drinking, and was now making a nuisance of himself in a public place - and to a police officer on duty.

So much for these clever oxford undergraduates

Personally, I don’t have a problem with any of this.
