Gunman in FedEx uniform kills son, wounds husband of NJ judge linked to high-profile cases

A man possibly involved in the fatal shooting of a federal court judge’s son in New Jersey was found dead in New York’s Sullivan County on Monday afternoon, according to multiple reports.

The man, an attorney from New York City, is being investigated in connection with the shooting, a law enforcement official and a judiciary official told the Associated Press. The man had appeared before the judge in the past, the officials said.

Trooper Steven Nevel, a spokesperson for New York State Police’s Troop F, told Fox News the FBI was on the scene in the town of Rockland to determine if the body found there was linked to the shooting at U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas’ home in North Brunswick.

I used to work for the federal judiciary, and was working there during the last high-profile shooting of a judge’s family, when Judge Joan Lefkow’s husband and mother were murdered in her home. At the time they suspected white supremacists because she had handled a high-profile case involving them. The perp turned out to be not a white supremacist, but some med-mal plaintiff who’d lost his suit and had a grudge against the judge.

There are protocols in place for identifying people with possible grudges against federal judges. They are generally nobodies who are upset that they lost their case and often suffered a lot of financial or personal issues as a result of the loss.

I’m still expecting there to be more to this story. Weird for an attorney to lash out at a judge. They get paid whether they win or lose generally.

Oh, it’s not weird at all.
However, there is also a possibility that he had a beef with her husband, who was also an attorney.
Or that he just slipped a gear upstairs, as it seems like this judge was ruling in his favor on the case that had come before her.

I meant weird for an attorney to turn into a murderer. I hadn’t considered the husband being the real target. I’ll be honest my first thought was jilted lover from an affair.

I can’t imagine Judge Salas would have given this old mixed-up guy a second look, but he might have had a crush on her that she didn’t reciprocate. I too am interested in what additional details come out.

I’ll admit that the Judge Lefkow shooting made me decide to never, ever pursue a career as a judge because I felt it would be putting my own mother and husband at too much risk.

It’s actually surprising to me more things like this don’t happen to judges. They are the face most people see put an end to life as they know it.

This isn’t about Jeffrey Epstein, it’s about a terminally ill lawyer who sounds like a bit of a crackpot who shot the family of a federal judge.

Furthermore, the so-called Epstein suit that people keep mentioning is a boring bank class action. If Epstein’s name wasn’t attached to it, it would be no different from the other one million boring class actions out there. It will likely settle out.

Well, it’s sounding more and more like the gunman was just a racist, sexist whackadoo who hated this judge for being female and Latina.
On his website, Den Hollander wrote an autobiographical document in which he personally disparaged Salas in racist and sexist terms.

While speaking about Salas, he claimed he often ran into trouble with female judges of Latin American descent, claiming they were “driven by an inferiority complex.”

He attacked Salas’ professional record and associations, and at one point, appeared to push a white nationalist belief that organizations are “trying to convince America that whites, especially white males, were barbarians, and all those of a darker skin complexion were victims.”
