MISSION HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Several people stopped by a statue of Father Junipero Serra in a park across from Mission San Fernando on Thursday after a photo made the rounds on social media appearing to show the statue had been vandalized.
A picture circulating Facebook showed the statue spray-painted red and the word “murder” written on Serra in white.

Iconoclasm will be hard to stop. History is messy.

I was thinking about helping to create a monument for victims of slavery.

Now, I’m not going to do that.

Same thing could happen to that statue, and I’d just be wasting my money.

Or just teenagers as the article eluded. If so, I doubt theyve thought through left, right, liberal, conservative, anarchist, totalitarian, monarchical, consitutional

Which just happens to coincide with all the tearing down and graffitied statues across the nation, after Charlottesville?

They may not belong to any official group, but they seem to be emboldened by adults who are acting just as foolishly as they are.

The comments on Facebook are almost as bad as the actual vandalism. I can hardly bear to read anything somehow involving the Church from a non-Catholic source because of how horrible the comments get.

The possibility of the vandalism trend spreading like wildfire is scary.

The Catholic Church opposes many secular ideas, and who knows what fanatics are capable of these days.

Hope parishes have good security systems…

During the French Revolution, many many people were guillotined … until finally the revulsion over the killing of some Catholic nuns caused the enthusiams to stop.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

Wow! That sure sounds like what we are living through now doesn’t it?!

Thanks for sharing!
The renaming of Mount McKinley in 2015 was indicative of the future.
I couldn’t believe that when it happened.

Yes I remember that.

I think Alaska had wanted it changed back to Denali as early as 1975.
It was originally known as Denali and changed after McKinley was assassinated
I think.
Denali is how the native Alaskans called it.
So this is a little different.
It is just one more piece of information we need to change in our brains though.

A little history about President William McKinley here

Attacking Saint Junipero Serra is portent of things to come. More importantly, his life, mission, sainthood and probable post mortem attacks are all timely messages for Catholics.
