Just curious - why do non-Catholics hang here?

Wow! That’s really amazing, because I’m quite proud and happy to be called Papist! I’ve always wanted the very cool t-shirt from the Ratzinger Fan Club cafepress.com/ratzfanclub.21274419 I just haven’t gotten around to buying it.

I don’t take that word as an insult, I take it as a supreme compliment to say that I follow my Holy Father and the Church he leads.

Well technicaly it isnt anything. Its just using the impolite and degrading term of “papist” - “under the Pope” and well we all know theology. He is just not using the correct term of “Catholic theology.” Papist is just an insulting term used by anti-Catholic denominations. Thank you for asking, God Bless!
Hi,
Thanks:thumbsup:

It’s how he uses the term that bothers me more so. I don’t like the attitude some people get when using certain phrases such as “Church of Rome” even though we can be called that but it’s still not a correct title for us. We are the Church of Christ (not of LDS though). I know someone who does that and he also likes to use “Papist” in a negative way. Although it could be a compliment for you, the person could be using it to jabe at you. But it’s not so much as a direct insult to me, I take it as a jabe to Jesus Christ. And that bothers me.

Simple. I like it here. 👍

Plus, I think Catholic positions on many things (purgatory, Mary, etc) make more sense than many Protestant postitions. I like the fact that Catholicism has Saints, real history, awe, majesty and a sense of sacredness not found in Protestantism. I’ve been to many, many churches and they all seem lacking. Maybe someday I’ll get around to becoming Catholic. I just loathe doing RCIA (I’ve started twice at 2 different churches). So I hang out here and live vicariously through you all. 😃

Catholic Apologist give a great rebuttal to Protestant objection to certain Catholic core doctrine and dogmas.

The Protestant apologists doesn’t seen to convince me. I try to see it both ways during my journey in my spiritual life, but the Catholic position makes sense because they read the Gospel in the full context.

Simple , because we love you guys and gals.
It is my hope to share the “truth” of Jesus Christ" with you
so you will have an antidote to the lies and halftruths that come out of Rome
Well Driving Bear we love the truths which come out of Rome, and actually feel sad that “you guys” live a lie and miss the beauty and theology of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, Whose head is Jesus Christ and founded on his Apostles, whose head is the Vicar of Christ, the founding Vicar being Peter, and the current Vicar of Christ being Benedict XVI. Thanks.
Grace Angel.

Ok good, now I see that I was not the only one bothered by that comment.
Before I became a Christian, I used the word “papist” in the same sense and spirit that people use the filthy and disgusing “n” word when refering to black people.

I realize this is not true for some. However, now that I am a Catholic, the word grates on me like nails on a chalkboard. It has a shock value for me second only to that horrible “n” word.

Congratulations (re vocation) and May the Lord Bless your calling.
I was recently overseas and met several Franciscans of the Renewal and I was so impressed, OH goodness, if I had been a male, I would have wanted to join them.

Well, JimmyJeff, as you look around the Church, you will also see a great variety. If you have been turned-off in a couple of the RCIA, take a look at some other parishes. Here is a rule of thumb. It is not always accurate, but is a helpful guidline. A small church with lots of statues and long lines during scheduled confession will probably have a good program. A church that is kind of stark, or has modernistic interior with little artwork or statues may not have such a devoted group of people.

In fact, if a church has confessions only by appointment I personally would not even attend Mass there. On the other hand, some churches have daily confession. A church like that will likely have the answers you are looking for.

Hi,

What is papist theology and why is it derogatory. I honestly have never heard this term before and just want to know.😃 I want to make sure I dont ever offend anyone.:o
Just FYI - I have never been offended by any of your comments that I’ve read. I can’t say the same for some of my fellow Catholics comments, though…😛 😉

Hi,
That reassures me that I am doing the right thing. Sometimes you just never know how someone is going to take something. My posts even if disagreeing are never meant to be rude or disrespectful EVER. I am extremely careful in editing my posts before I hit send. Sometimes I will type something and then reread it from a catholic perspective and delete it because it sounded too mean.:o

I feel the same way. I hope that I am charitable to everyone here. I don’t want to be uncharitable to Protestants or fellow Catholics. Sometimes it’s hard to say something online like this in a charitable way because written words may not come out right. And without face-to-face contact, sometimes you don’t know how somebody might interpret something you said. Please forgive me if I have ever been uncharitable or offensive. ❤️

Hi,

Never not once:nope: 😃

I’ve noticed that there are many non-Catholic members here. I’m really curious why they hang out on a Catholic site? I’m not asking this in a judging or nasty way, I’m truly curious. Why would someone who is clearly not in agreement with the Catholic Faith want to spend time in a place where what they probably do believe is constantly disagreed with?

What do non-Catholics get out of being here, I guess is what I’m wondering.

Why would Catholics invite such people to their site?

I rapidly discovered that CAF is the home of some of the nicest Christian people on earth. (None of whom are hearing http://bestsmileys.com/silly/18.gifLittle Voices Tell Them To Tell Me Anything!)
So, I have:thumbsup: stayed!!
:rotfl: God love ya Zooey 😃

My Little Voices :bigyikes: are telling me to tell you what a joy it is having you around 👍 and all the wonderful, caring (and reasonable) Catholics and non-Catholics around here. I for one learn from all of you, so it’s great having y’all around.

I frist came to CAF to read (not post) and learn more about the Catholic Faith from Catholics themselves. After lurking for sometime I found that many Catholics here have some misconceptions about protestants and I felt the need to help straighten them out. After that I satyed around because debating spurs on my Bible study and gives me practice in defending my Faith.

Besides all that, some of you are just fun to chat with. 😃
