…who hated my family or does not like my friends
…who thinks that “honesty” means never having to think about whether what you are about to say is necessary or kind.
…who puts down people more virtuous than he is as “goody two shoes.”
…who cannot admit he is wrong or who will not apologize when he is
…whose friends cautioned me not to stay with him
…who thinks there is some kind of work that is “beneath” him, even though someone has to do it
…who defends even his admitted character faults with “that is just the way I am”
On the fun side, based on both friends and my marriage, I could put up with an awful lot of things. I can put up with:
…stubbornly refusing to do things like fold towels “the right way.”
…deciding that there are certain foods he simply will not eat, period
…a certain amount of negativity, as long as he’s enough of a good sport to realize that the only way to endure his “Eeyore” attitude is to laugh at it
…a certain amount of what I consider bad taste
…a certain amount of intolerance or disinterest for things I like
I could never marry anyone who calls their Mom everyday.
I’d suggest you wait until you meet the woman he calls every day before you decide that the relationship is off-kilter. I married someone who called his mom every day. She was a widow. I loved her so much that when she couldn’t take care of her home any more she moved in with us. She was among the best mother-in-laws ever. We still miss having her here with us.
I could never marry anyone who isn’t able to operate a toilet seat on her own.
Oh, just leave it down. Everyone uses it in the “down” position once in awhile, and sometimes they are in a very big hurry when they get to it. The person you leave the seat down for could be yourself!
(The truth is that it is more sanitary to put both the seat and the lid down when you flush, too. If you think about a) the aerosol created when you flush and b) that you keep your toothbruth in that room, it makes a lot of sense.)
