I love the part with ole Warner playing Evil where he says, “That’s a good question. Why did the Supreme Being keep me locked up here in the Fortress of Ultimate Darkness?” And the little imp demon guy Robert says, “because…” Warner interrupts him, “oh shut up, I’m speaking rhetorically. I allow myself to be locked up in here to lure him into a false sense of security!” LOL
Then there’s the classic line…

“Oh! So that’s what an invisible wall looks like!”
Sacre cuer, 'tis blusphemy. Unicorns sacredness is no longer respected, or even recognised by the unbelievers. Unicorns are moral agents and just because they have four legs, a mane and a tail, they are discriminated against in a most horrible and vicious manner. They are hunted and oppressed because their horns possess magical powers once ascribed to hermaphrodite. Your men mount them and ride them, your women tease them beyond the bounds of human tolerance and unicorn sensibilities. They are reduced to the levels of humans who are classed as underpriviledged but who, in reality, are ruthlessly exploited and oppressed by the heartless classes.

Revolt is in the wind…
The world is grown so bad, that wrens make prey where unicorns dare not perch.

It is incorrect to call it a 'duckbilled platypus. It is just a platypus.
Australians get really narky when others shove in the ‘duckbilled’ thing.

Its Latin name is Ornithorhynchus anatinus

Its scientific classification is both monotreme and mammal.
It can poison you too.

If you want to be really clever, it’s either a mird, or a bammell.

Its natural predators include snakes, water rats, goannas, spotted quolls, eels, hawks, owls and eagles. In the north of its range, dingoes are another predator but way, way up north crocodiles love platypus morsels for desert.

If nothing else, the beautiful little platypus is proof writ large of God’s sense of humour and of His design credentials. I mean, no mere mortal could have come up with such a thing and as for evolution, well, if the rest of nature got that mixed up along the way, we’d be walking on ten legs, braying like donkeys, have three heads and be eating worms. If you ask for proof of God’s existence, just mention the platypus.

This subject gets very deep…

Human knees and especially backs are evolutionary near hits, imo. Neither works well for every long. Our backs and knees wear out long before the rest of us.

Of course, maybe God did invent knees and backs in a special creation effort to provide income for chiropractors and surgeons. 😉

How about this one concerning Noah’s Ark that I’ve never seen addressed. We know now that there are literally millions of different species of animals, plants, archaebacteria, fungi, protists (sorry if this list is incomplete or inaccurate from the kingdoms of life on earth - it’s been a long time since I took biology :). How did Noah gather all those species together which, by the way, live in every possible corner of the earth? How about that species of sea-slug that lives only in the depths of the western pacific? Even if two of every species could be gathered together (which is preposterous) how would they all fit on the ark? I do believe in a literal Noah’s Ark, by the way.

:hmmm:

Or the other scene, “Ah, the sea…how I love her! She’s so, so, so damned…wet! Yes, she’s so damned wet”

Or Robin Hood: “How long have you been a robber?”
Midget: “Four foot one”
Hood: “Good God, four foot one you say? Four foot one…craykee, that uhh, that, that is a long time!”
Then there’s the classic line…

That’s it, I’m abandoning both Unicorns and Velociraptors and just sticking it out with T-Rex 😛
That’s fine, T-Rex is a dinosaur, and as such is awesome.

Just not quite as awesome as the velociraptor with a howitzer.

In that case, I’m switching gears and supporting the Pegasus, the much more awesome mythical creature.

You know what the best thing about that movie was? The main character was a little kid who was competent. In most movies the kid character is just there to say “WOW!” when something cool happens, or get in trouble, or be a stupid comedic relief. In that movie, the kid knew what to do at the right time. Plus, I always found empathy with him because when I was a little kid I was really into military history.

Twas brillig, and the slithy wrens
Did gyre and gimble on their perch
All mimsy were the unicorn hens,
And the harried men did lurch.

Um uh um there once was a man from Nantucket…

…nah, forget it. 😦

Couldn’t agree with you more, Wolf. I loved Kevin as a kid, too. I envied him to be able to go back in time. When I was a kid I was just enthralled with history. Things haven’t changed much. I’m the only teacher on my campus to faithfully teach ancient history (Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, Mesopotamia, India) for at least one hour per day! 🙂

It was cool to have the kid be the one with his head screwed on straight. I loved the DVD special edition of Time Bandits with the producer and director, Terry Gilliam. They talked about that little demon Horseflesh and his lost role in the movie, cut scenes, the plastic bags on the furniture and on the demons, it was hilarious. I didn’t realize how much George Harrison did to get that movie on the map.

I remember as a kid how much I ADORED that Harrison song at the end “Dream Away”

And Sir Ralph Richardson as God in a three-piece suit! Priceless lol

Actually I forgot to mention my favorite character–Napoleon, obsessed with short people! lol and his golden hand could be ‘unscrewed’ lol:D

Stories about Terry Gilliam films are always fun to hear about. He has no respect for authority and demands everything his way, so really every time he makes a film it’s like a sitcom - every day he’s in a new jam he has to get out of. 😃

Incidentally, ever seen Terry Gilliam’s epic “Brazil”? It’s my favorite movie of all time. There’s so much I can relate to in that movie. It’s like a spoof of what it’s like to have a dead-end job and then fantasize about breaking out of. If you’ve ever seen “Man of La Mancha,” imagine that story in a pseudo-1940’s world.

Pfft, if you had seen Clash of the Titans you’d know how easy it is to pwn Pegasus. The little mechanical owl kicked more butt that him!

I do have to agree that Bubo the robotic owl DID kick a lot more butt than Pegasus. He grabbed the “eye” from the Stygian witches, did his share of surveying and scouting, and survived some tough battering :p…but then again Pegasus did indeed provide some great transportation and got Perseus where he needed to be a lot faster than ground delivery…

I am still puzzled as to why the “kraken” from norse mythology was used in COTT as well as “Calibos,” a weird Satyr-looking devil guy? There are plenty of compelling, interesting Greek mythical characters they could have used.

Did you know they’re remaking this movie? I’m surprised it doesn’t have Jessica Simpson as Andromeda and Duane “The Rock” what’s-his-face playing Perseus. I’d like to see Ian McKellan as Zeus! Put Rebecca Romijn as Andromeda and I’m there! 😃
You, sir, are now my enemy.

I agree Pegusus was fast transportation, but this is a battle for survival here and I’m not so sure our four hoofed winged friend has what it takes against T-Rex.

Exactly. The Pegasus served his role, what more do you want? What, you wanted him to fire rockets out of his eyes?

Although that would have been pretty cool…

Ahem, but in any any case, what roles to unicorns serve? “OOOOOHH!!! Look a unicorn! How pretty!! Uh oh, here come the Shmooze! Nothing can stop the Shmooze!”

I think that was Harryhausen’s personal touch. The original monster was more of a giant whale, which would have been kinda boring to show. “Oooh, big man Perseus showed a whale an ugly head! What a hero…” Still, I remember as a kid being amazed as the monster came climbing up over the rocks. That guy was awesome. 😃

Sadly yes. I think I lost a few years from my life finding out. The trailer looked terrible - it looked like another 300-wannabe with excessive use of slow-motion (sort of like how every war film after Saving Private Ryan had to have excessive use of shaky cam). I say leave the classics alone. CotT was a childhood favorite of mine, and I don’t think it needs to be remade. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

It only proves Solomon… nothing new.

If Pegusus wants to take on a t-rex, then yeah he needs to shoot rockets out of his eyeballs 😛

Speaking of the Ark.

The Bible says it covered the whole earth. Now assuming Mt. Everest 6000 years ago was approximately 6 miles high, that would be six miles of rain in 40 days. That converts to 380,160 inches of rain in 40 days.

Now 40 days consists of 57,600 minutes. So that comes to 6.6 inches per minute. A kind of heavy rainstorm methinks.

Hey, I like these topics…like are there space aliens…or will we see my dead puppy in heaven. Sometimes I think the kids ask the best theological questions.
