Just got banned from a Baptist Forum...

I know that site. The Catholic threads can be readily found under “False Religions.”

This whole thread got me curious. I dont know what site the OP is referring to but I did a search for baptists forums and checked out the first one I found on the list I’ve never seen anything like it

Not sure if it’s the same one but there’s a ‘‘pastor’’ there who is using the most racist inflammatory insulting and derogatory language when replying to people. Seems like when you get banned they alter your picture to make you look weird

This site does not say a lot for Baptists to be honest, but I’m hooked on the sheer vileness of the place. I’m reasonably certain most of the posts I’ve read from their believers exhibit very serious underlying mental health issues

Makes you catholics seem like such a nice sweet bunch of people after all

I saw that the moderator was in the thread, “Can Roman Catholics Be Saved?”

And he was talking about just because Catholics have conservative values "(anti-abortion, no same-sex marriage, et cetera) doesn’t mean squat. “They are on a path of destruction, and if any ever become saved they will be convicted and leave immediately.” blah, blah, blah.

So I said:

"Hi, I’m new to this forum, and I just wanted to say I think you’re wrong about Catholics. As a matter of fact, I must be going to Hell too, 'cause I’m thinking about becoming Catholic.
Since it appears the Catholic Church is founded by Christ and He said the “gates of Hell will not prevail against it. But I think you should find out what Catholics really believe, instead of reading second- and third-hand sources.”

Then a message came up about a minute later, saying:

YOU ARE PERMANENTLY BANNED FROM THIS FORUM
See Administrator for details.

You should have “informed” them that the Vatican is a landing spot for alien spacecrafts! They’ll believe you for sure.

I just got banned from a Baptist Forum… I thought they encouraged discussion?

I was banned on my very first message!

All I did was introduce myself!

Permanent ban!

Congrats. Hardcore Fundies don’t like Catholics, generally speaking. I got kicked out of one on the grounds that I was not supposed to defend the Catholic Church in the *‘Catholic Church’ *discussion forum. In other words, they set it up specifically to *slam-dunk *Catholicism without any credible interference. The Catholic ‘regulars’ there made no credible effort to defend their faith. I found the whole concept pathetic.

In defense of other Baptists, this group isn’t the norm as far as I can tell. They reject other Baptist denominations, although they don’t call them false religions.

My husband’s father’s side of the family are fundamental Baptists. They refused to attend our wedding and have never taken an interest in our children. I never understood why until I visited that site. 3 out of their 4 grandchildren have converted from Baptist to Catholic. The 4th turned to Wiccan, but I’m working on him.

Well said, GeorgiaPeach. It bothers me the way posters here have been speaking about that one forum as though that’s “just how baptists are”.

I know I would hate for anyone to look at the forum I mentioned, and take it as representative of Catholics.

Myself having brown up baptist and after years of hearing about how catholics are “going striaght to hell, will not pass go will not get $200” I am not suprised by things like this.

The way some of my pastors and “youth leaders” have talked about catholics, but my interaction with catholics did not match up, got me to want to learn more about catholics.

I think the way this forum is run even with the flame war from time to time speaks volumes about catholics.

No. The site you mention looks more like a Fred Phelps type of following.

The members at the other site are actually nice people trying to do what Jesus taught. They just aren’t very tolerant of outsiders nor are they open to debate.

That’s the one I found googling. I thought it might be that one. I couldn’t believe some of the stuff coming out of some of their pastors mouths. The abuse of everyone and anyone just seemed unreal. So bad in fact, I did actually wonder if it was a bit of a send up It is just tooooo bad to be real If it is a send up - then that’s actually a relief. So now I’m even more curious as to the baptist site that banned to OP - is it against the rules of this site to name other sites? Why all the coyness?

I think you are correct. Most of the people look too young and there are a lot of avitars that would never fly on a Christian message board.

All that wasted time and energy just to make fun of people.

Yes it is against the rules to name other sites. It can be construed as ‘board swarming’. We don’t like it when other websites do it to us, so we don’t allow it in any form here.

Wow, you piqued my interest with this post, so I checked it out and I found just what another poster mentioned. The moderator left your posts up with a notice that you and the poster ahead of you had both been banned. However, in defense of the forum, the name of it does say “A site for Independent, Fundamental Baptist believers to fellowship and uplift our Lord.” While I don’t believe that thread was doing anything to “uplift our Lord” I would also just stay out of it. I had to create an account to view the thread, but I doubt I’ll be returning for anything. Unless I feel a little ornery one day… Jezkidn

By the way. How does one “uplift the Lord” anyway? Is He sad?

I found this posting amusing. Why? My mother was catholic, wel, she sent us to mass once a week, my dad was baptist, but "agreed " to “raise” us catholic so mom could be married in the church. religon was never discussed in our house, excpt did we bring home a bulliton so they knew we didnt skip mass, LOL. My grandmother was baptist, and she talked to us a lot about God, and the bible, and why christians are christans, regardless of the denomonations. I never knew what the catholics beieved and why they believed it. At least baptist and some other denomanations teach during their semons. So what do I consider my self? A Catholic Baptist, LOL I recently studied why differnt christians believe what they do, found the whole thing very interesting and rewarding.
