THAT is exceedingly POOR advice and a serious sin of PRESUMPTION

BUT Do pray very much and GET TO A DOCTOR ASAP

Oh thank you very much. My friend also said that If I wanted to get A in the test, I would have to pray to God and there would be no need to learn. I think he was satirizing Catholic faith too. I was so sad 😥

It’s cute, and sweet, but a bit theologically iffy. Union with God can bring peace, confidence, and clarity. Knowing that God has got us covered can be a huge psychological boon. However, God might very well say “no” to something.

For instance, a child might do research, save money and volunteer so that his parents can notice that he is responsible enough for a dog of his own. But if his father is allergic, no matter how good he does his family is not getting a dog. This is not a failure of the boy, or of God, or even of his father but simply life.

Well…to be fair, for many highschool is so easy they think they can just say a prayer and ace a test because it ALWAYS works for them. I cannot tell you how many hundreds (probably a thousand) of college freshman that sat across my desk and told me “I have no idea why I failed”
“Did you study?”
“Nah, I (looked over notes, said a prayer, something equally useless) It always worked in highschool…I think the professor is (insert excuse here)”

So your fellow stdent may not have arrived at this conclusion with any maliciousness.

Then came a rescue helicopter, which lowered a rope ladder. “Climb up”, said a crewman. “We’ll see you safe.”
The man replied: “No, I trust God will save me.”
The helicopter left and the man prayed again: “God, save me from the flood.”
The flood rose, and the man drowned. Soon he stood before God.
“Lord”, said the man; “I prayed and I trusted You. Why did you not save me from the flood?”
“My child”, said the Lord, “I sent you two boats and a helicopter. What more were you waiting for?”

Either your friend is satirizing Catholic teaching or he genuinely has a distorted idea of what we believe. Either way I advise you to just tell him “That is not what Catholics believe. To do what we can ourselves does not mean we lack faith in God.”
Perhaps quote some of the things that have already been said in this thread.
It may be that your friend is just not willing to listen when you try to explain. In that case the best thing might be to just stop trying to answer him.

No. Doctors and Scientists are from God. Their talent and their desire is the gift from God.
They are here for healing sick people. God always directs and guides people to see doctors for healing.
