Now i’d have to say that drugs were a big problem in my life. It all started with me picking up that “weed” that I had gotten from a “friend”.
At first I smoked it once a month and I still went to church(I was a baptist at the time). Then I smoked it twice a month and went to church every other week. Then I started smoking it every week and only going to church once a month. Then I started smoking it everyday, I stopped going to church.
Then I got into Cocaine, Meth, and what have you. I went 4 years without going to church. I had a huge problem with drugs and it took me away from god. Eventually I got back to god when I decided to attend Catholic Church.
But see? Marijuana takes you away from god.
And these life is for walking with god so we can walk with him for eternity in Heaven.

In no way shape or form was I accrediting the Marijuana for the problem entirely.
However, I will say that it differed my situation.
I am saying that the same thing could happen to Youth and that would not be good for the world.

Fair enough, but in most cases the whole "youth will be harmed if marijuana is legalized’’ argument is quite a sensationalist view and I think it’s a misleading one.

No matter how bad marijuana actually is or is imagined to be, marijuana is readily available to youth. So, I don’t see what difference legalization could make. The people who are responsible avoid the circles where pot is used, so even if these people could get pot without entering drug circles, because of legalization, they’ve already proven that they’re responsible.

They’re plenty of responsible people that use cannabis and it would be in favor of our society to provide a safer place for responsible adults to purchase their cannabis.

I have not read the thread, but the Church has not made a declaration on this. What the Church does teach is that harmful and debilitating use of drugs is sinful because it offends the dignity of the human body (in which the Holy Spirit resides), but this is definitely an area of legitimate disagreement when it comes to marijuana, and I know a very good and orthodox priest which does not think its use is a sin at all.

St. Frances DeSales said: “a Saint sad is a sad Saint.” People who smoke marijuana are trying to fill a void in their lives, something that is missing. A person with a true knowledge and desire to understand can overcome any temptation with the proper frame of mind. Just as too much alcohol alters your reason and ability to make decisions, so it is with marijuana, it alters your ability to persevere and your ability to make clear concious decisions, and your desire to further yourself, to improve. It is a difficult thing to stop, but there are definately things in life that will fill the void and help you persevere more so than smoking a plant that inhibits these things. God Bless and please persevere in these difficult times that we are now in.

Or they have other issues, such as chronic pain, cancer or some disease.
Aside from these, I know a number of doctors who do it to relax, some athletes who do it when they train to stay limber, and I also know of a lead programmer (for a very well known company) who smokes it three times a day “just because”.If it is okay to drink/smoke a more harmful substance (alcohol/tobacco) to relax, I see little moral reason as to why use of cannabis should be unacceptable.

This discussion is not about the use of MEDICINAL marijuana. That is under a different heading since it’s prescribed by a doctor. Those of us who try to discourage the use of marijuana by kids aren’t addressing such a thing.
We are, however, discussing the use of marijuana as the thing to do.

It’s not illegal everywhere for everyone. I have a doctor’s recommendation and pick up my legal bud during lunch hour about two and a half blocks from my office in an office building with a security guard. The people in the dispensary are friendly and helpful.Really, I just have to ask how responcible is it to pput yourself in a place that is not safe to purchase an substance that is illegal?
And in spite of all this, I have been with the same employer for over 20 years and in my current position for almost 14, so I’d hardly call myself irresponsible.

Responsible adults is the first shield people hide behind when promoting ‘alternative lifestyles.’ I heard it from the Hippies: “I’m a responsible adult and I’ll do what I want.”

There is no reason to believe that any taxes will be paid should marijuana be sold as a general product. The moment the tax reaches a certain level, cheap joints will be back on the streets OR, people who don’t want their faces on security cameras will stick to their current source of supply.
Finally, ‘medical marijuana’ has no business being sold in so-called dispensaries. If it is a drug for medical use, it should be sold in pharmacies where all other drugs are sold.

Are you actually claiming that marijuana has no medical benefits? You’re claiming this because pharmacies don’t sell it yet? There are more reasons behind it than this.

Those who are getting it for legit med purppose and from a legal source are not the ones I was addressing in my post.
And though I really question the long term med use of marijuana as legit, it can not be any more harmful than some of the med they are putting out now days all you have to do is listen to the tv ad disclaimers.

What I’m claiming is that “dispensaries” are not needed. If marijuana has medical benefits then sell it in a drug store like all other drugs.
