I find the article to be rather amusing. I think I saw an X-Files episode that was eerily similar in tone and content (not really). I am honestly surprised that they put that much work into it…but I suppose I shouldn’t be.

Not exactly super secret, at least no more so than the Knights of Malta.

They are a set of rather rich Catholics who hunt and do conservation work, in much the same way that the Knights of Malta do charitable work.
 
I’ve seen the Knights of Columbus referred to as a “secret society” also. Leave it to the media . . . .I guess anything that isn’t open to everybody must be a “secret.”

Didn’t you know? The secret society was started by Peter. The original text in the Bible says, Jesus said, ‘Feed My sheep. Then shoot them.’" These parts of Scripture were thought lost, but were cared for by an order of Jewish ascetic hunter-monks* started by Nimrod, who founded the order just for that purpose 2000 years BC in preparation for that command. In the interim, they invented hats with ear flaps and spent long hours sitting stock still. After getting the secret Bible verses from Peter (along with the other missing bits, like the part in Leviticus that says that since you can’t mix fabrics, church banners must be made of pure felt), they buried them along with parts of the True Cross, the Spear of Destiny, and an original copy of The King James Bible in its original Aramaic, autographed by Jesus. Eventually the order of monks devolved into a weird*** secret society that started some syncretistic practices, like blaze-orange as a liturgical color, duck calls instead of bells, and silly hats with long feathers on. They were then taken over by the Jesuits.*

Yeah, not much to see here, although Michael Savage was making a big deal of it on his radio show.

A quick look however will reveal that this order is nothing more than a chivalric order that goes back to the days of knights and noblemen and has carried on to this day. Several like it still live on to this day. I love these orders, as they keep the chivalric traditions alive and normally do great things for the Church. They often have well heeled Catholics in their ranks such as Justice Scalia, and they no longer fight with swords, but with their money which the Church puts to good use. Justice Scalia was a devout, successful Catholic gentleman, so seeing him in the ranks of this order is not a surprise at all.

Can’t wait to share this with my Dad. He has a special devotion to St. Hubertus and is an avid hunter, not to mention a big fan of Scalia.

An ophthalmologist that my father went to med school with was a member. When each of us kids finished hunter ed, he would send us a St. Hubert medal.

In addition to his regular practice, he would do charity work overseas, doing free eye surgery in developing countries. While he was there, he would often hunt.
