In fact, every leader of every community of Christians in the 4th century got together to declare this as a matter of faith for all Christians (First Council of Nicaea) and to denounce anyone else who said otherwise (in particular, Arius).
Up until this so-called 4th century Council, numerous gospels were in circulation, in the hands of ‘People of the Way’.
You are in fact , following this 4th century council’s discision, not Jesus, as even in the 4 gospels, picked randomly by Nicaean Council by unknown people] nowhere Jesus claimed “Divinity” you believed in.

John 10 30 …I and the Father are one.

God Bless

John 1:1-3: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. (RSV)

John 10:30: I and the Father are one.

These are just a couple of verses that I quickly found right now, where is the authority of the JW’s to proclaim that Jesus is not the Son of God, and the doctrine of the Trinity. It seems to me if you are going to question our belief in Jesus’ divinity, should produce a little evidence to the contrary.🤷

rbrownr, from where did Charles Taze Russell get his authority to interpret scripture and claim otherwise to what this council concluded?

This 4th century council organized the same scriptures your founder used to interpret his own version of Christianity. So if you don’t accept their ruling on the Divinity of Christ, you can’t accept any of their rulings (including the canon of the Bible). If the canon of the Bible is wrong, then you can’t possibly believe in anything about Jesus, including His death and resurrection. So your whole religion is based on a lie. Not only that, but you are also in direct contradiction with your own sect which accepts the New Testament canon.

Thank you MarianD: I suppose I was confused by the fact that they didn’t use an upper case H in He.
Hi, Sufjon,

The Bible does not capitalize every reference to Jesus or God. That would be quite distracting.

Example: When Jesus began his ministry he was about thirty years of age.

Thank You PRMerger for the clarification. I now understand that your scriptures do not claim all who come in the name of the Lord to be blessed. I had thought that they did, and found it rather a nice thing. Anyway, I will humbly submit that in spite of that they will be treated as blessed when they come to my door, which is in accordance with the faith I am familiar with. Whether they are Jehovah’s Witnesses, Catholic, Protestant, Jewish or whatever, my faith requires that I look to see God behind every face, and to treat them accordingly. I suppose the heart of my comment was that I didn’t understand the divisions between the Jehovah’s Witnesses at the door and the poster in the opening post of the thread. Both are followers of Jesus. I am sure both are in His heart, and both will be with Him, because it is Him that they seek. I think their Father will come to greet them without regard to the path they came to Him on. While I find much of what I see in Christianity to be hard to fathom, I will continue to try to learn.

Your friend
Sufjon

John 1:1-3: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. (RSV)

John 10:30: I and the Father are one.
John 1:1-3 is mistranslated. Btwy, these are not Jesus’ words. So these words of a certain unknown “John”, has nothing to do with “Divinity” in question.

In John 10:30, the very words “I” and “Father” are proof of Jesus being totally different from God.
If Jesus had to claim Divinity, he could have said : “I myself is Father”. Did he say this or something to this effect in a clear manner?

Lastly in “trinity” he is always placed in the second person. Why? Why he cannot be in the first or third person if Jesus and Father were same and one?

Do JWs only take as inspired the words of Jesus in Scripture? Or do they consider the words of Paul, Peter, John etc inspired?

Mistranslated by whom? JW’s are the only ones that translate these verses this way. And so what if thet are not Jesus’ words. Do you believe the bible is inerrant? I think an apostle who walked with Jesus had a pretty good understanding of who Christ was.

**Ah. Once again the classic JW misunderstanding of the Trinity. My friend, you’re refuting something called Modalism. I’ll agree with you that this is a heresy, but what you describe is NOT the Trinity doctrine.

**

**Once again, from whom did Russell receive the authority to “interpret” scripture? **

Indeed. Our Scriptures say that there will be many wolves in sheep’s clothing.

👍

Christianity preaches that we should treat all as we would like to be treated.

But also to be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

[BIBLEDRB]Matt 10:16[/BIBLEDRB]

What causes divisions are divisions in Truth.

Thus, either it is true that the Eucharist is the body/blood/soul and divinity of our Savior, or it is not, and it is then idolatry what Catholics do.

And, either Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, or there are other ways. Both cannot be true.

All four gospels picked by a council in 4th century by a group of people, are no more than books of biographies in which their unknown authors quoted some words of Jesus out of what they heard from other uknown people. They were not the eyewitnesses of any actual happening/Jesus life. None of these are inspired by God, as they are contradictory.

Are you saying that the Bible is not divinely inspired?

PR, JW’s view the WTBS as inspired and the final authority. They do view scripture as inspired per se, but only as far as it does not conflict with their doctrines. They tend to focus more on Paul’s epistles then they do the Gospels. Hence the reason for them to have produce the NWT version of the bible so it would support their beliefs, something that their bibles of the first half of the 20th century that they used certianly did not support.

JW’s never cease to amaze me.

Are you saying that the Bible is not divinely inspired?
The Bible per se cannot be divinely inspired.
It’s TEXT itself is clear proof of being not divinley inspired.
Nor you should claim that it is divinly inspired. Otherwise you will be guilty of attributing contradictions to God.

So what is truth? If the “Text” is not divinely inspired, I guess Revelation, which contains the number “144,000” is unreliable?

So how is it that you know anything about Jesus and what God has revealed?

And how is it that God transmitted his revelation to us?

Believe it or not, I had to actually call and talk to an “elder” to get them to stop coming! got on the line with an elder, explained very politely why I did not want any witnesses to come over, wished him a nice day, and the “elder” said he would make sure they don’t come back. I sure hope that is the case. I had a sneaking suspicion they’d be over here before Halloween and sure enough, they were. Dropping off their “literature” as they like to call it. I sure hope they don’t come back. I have no desire to see them. They’ll be back in our neighborhood at Christmas time. Like clock work. Handing out their “magazines”. Trying to take souls from God. Well, this is one soul they will never get. 👍 no matter how hard they try, they aren’t nabbing my soul like they did to a friend of mine.
