JW at the door: Where the Hispanics at?

PR, JW’s view the WTBS as inspired and the final authority. They do view scripture as inspired per se, but only as far as it does not conflict with their doctrines. They tend to focus more on Paul’s epistles then they do the Gospels. Hence the reason for them to have produce the NWT version of the bible so it would support their beliefs, something that their bibles of the first half of the 20th century that they used certianly did not support.
I am not familiar with JW doctrine–not a single JW has ever knocked on my door, and I can’t figure out why! Perhaps it’s because we have a statue of Mary out front?

I thought the Watchtower was a magazine they produced that had really cheesy lines like, “Do you want to live in a world without hunger or suffering?” How generic and uninspired.

It reminds me of the Sunday horoscopes in the summer that say, “You will attend a barbecue today.” Well, yeah, probably this prediction will be true for 85% of the readers, and the other 15% are going to grill some sort of meat in their backyard, so who doesn’t it appeal to?

The Truth is Jesus is not God nor divine.
Please answer the question asked by TMore, rbrownr.

Do you not cite Revelation as part of your belief regarding 144,000 in heaven?

If so, then why do you believe that, if it’s not inspired?

Dear friend w2lds2catholic: I am trying to gain an understanding of some of the nuances among Christians. I will admit that I don’t understand them very well. Do the psalms say “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord”? I’m confused that you wouldn’t be happy to find devotees of Jesus at your door. Can you explain some of this to me?

Your friend
Sufjon
I’d be happy to tell you why I think many of those who come bravely to the door are not ones to be happy about.

List the essential beliefs for salvation and then we can go from there.

The Bible per se cannot be divinely inspired.
It’s TEXT itself is clear proof of being not divinley inspired.
Nor you should claim that it is divinly inspired. Otherwise you will be guilty of attributing contradictions to God.
So by what authority do you make these claims? If you are going to go against 2000 years of Christian belief, what is your authority?

The Truth is Jesus is not God nor divine.
No, that’s the WTBS version of their understanding… Now, how do you know that Jesus even existed? Jesus is called “Mighty God”. The NWT calls him “a god”. So that’s not divine? The definition of divine below from The Free Dictionary online:

di·vine (d-vn)
adj. di·vin·er, di·vin·est
1.
a. Having the nature of or being a deity.
b. Of, relating to, emanating from, or being the expression of a deity: sought divine guidance through meditation.
c. Being in the service or worship of a deity; sacred.
2. Superhuman; godlike.
3.
a. Supremely good or beautiful; magnificent: a divine performance of the concerto.
b. Extremely pleasant; delightful: had a divine time at the ball.
4. Heavenly; perfect.

So Christ is not divine??

I said earlier and I repeat :

It’s TEXT whether it is John’s non-synoptic Gospel’s or Book of Revelation’s ] itself is clear proof of being not divinley inspired.
Nor you should claim that it is divinly inspired. Otherwise you will be guilty of attributing contradictions to God.

Ok. Then how is it that you know anything about Jesus, about God’s revelation?

How do you know if Jesus was a man or a woman? Who told you? Do you know who his mother was? How do you know?

Where do you get your info/data? And how did that data get here?

rbrownr, I would be very, very careful about being here on the Catholic Answers forum.

You are getting in way over your head.

Right now I can see that you are floundering in that you cannot answer simple questions without resorting to nonsequitors.

You are going to be asked many, many questions here. If you cannnot respond thoughtfully and insightfully, then you are in dangerous territory as a JW and will soon be joining the Catholic Church.

Careful!

I’ll ask you again where does your authority for your beliefs come from? Who, and when did they establish this claim that contradicts 2000 years of Christian history?

Some quotations from the WTBS themselves:

“…the Bible is an organizational book and belongs to the Christian congregation as an organization, not to individuals, regardless of how sincerely they may believe that they can interpret the Bible. For this reason the Bible cannot be properly understood without Jehovah’s visible organization in mind.” (Watchtower, Nov 1, 1967, p587)

“The Bible cannot be properly understood without Jehovah’s visible organization in mind.” (Watchtower, Oct 1, 1967, pg. 587)

“Only this organization functions for Jehovah’s purpose and to his praise. To it alone God’s Sacred Word, the Bible, is not a sealed book.” (Watchtower; July 1, 1973; p. 402)

“We all need help to understand the Bible, and we cannot find the scriptural guidance we need outside the ‘faithful and discreet slave’ organization.’” (Watchtower, February 15, 1981, p.19)

Good question/quest.
Before we get to this point, you need to know the actual soruces of NT’s TEXT that has reached to us through ‘Q Document’.

I agree with your point, but you are ignoring the major point every other catholic is here.
Are they preying on a particular race?

I am just trying to get a simple answer out of rbrownr, who is his/her authority for making the claims that Jesus is not divine and that the Bible is not inspired by God.

Maybe reading the thread title and the original post would help you understand.
No, they are preying on anybody. They probably were given some Spanish material and they were trying to deposit them in the right households.

I am not surprised that my question was never answered , it is easy to attack someone’s belief but when you are called on it and you don’t have anything to back up your statement, then there is silence.

No, they are preying on anybody. They probably were given some Spanish material and they were trying to deposit them in the right households.
There is nothing in the original post to lead me to conclude they were preying on anybody.
Apparently, if that was the agenda they missed the OP as a “anybody”.

Did not even try to engage the OP and was fact finding for the Hispanic race in the area.

But," said Moses to God, “when I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ if they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what am I to tell them?”

God replied, “**I am **who am.”

John 8:58 Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I AM.” So they picked up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid and went out of the temple area.
TSo they picked up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid and went out of the temple area.
, I AM."

The Jews picked up stones because they understood exactly that Jesus claimed to be God.

Please produce this “Q Document”
John 1:1-3 is mistranslated. Btwy, these are not Jesus’ words. So these words of a certain unknown “John”, has nothing to do with “Divinity” in question.
According to who? Who says that is is an unknown?
