A nice lady, who is a Jehovah Witness stopped by my house, she came in and we started talking about the Bible. As we talked I asked her about their form of Baptisum. I asked her if they Baptised in the Name of the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit as they imersed the person and they came up out of the water.

I was floored when she told me, well not really. She said the Words are not said over the person, but yet the person, knows, that’s what they are doing, that since there are so many being baptised at once that they are told “A head” of time that this is what it means.

We then looked up in “their” bible, the words where Jesus said to baptise in the Name of the Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. She then even read this out loud, then said to me, well he (Jesus) really didn’t mean it that way.

She explained to me that just putting someone under the water was a “profession of faith” and that’s all it ment.

It didn’t surprise me at all that even though “their” bible says what Jesus says, it was “over looked”. I know that several of the JW’s refuse to even take a good look at their own “Religion” and their errors.

I did sugget to her a couple of things…(she’s very hard headed.)
  1. Do a search on the Bible…how it came together ect.
  2. Do a search on the background of her own church…(all the differnt things they’ve believed over the years and how they’ve changed their “format of beliefs”.
  3. I also suggested, that if she wants people to “listen” to her, then she needs to respect “others” and be a good listener back. (as she would always interrupt me when I was talking and wanting to share my thoughts.)
Of course she wants to do a Bible Study. I highly doubt she’ll be back as I offered to do a “Catholic Bible Study” with her too.

Just thought I’d share this.

Nice way to re-butt. We have an almost similar situation, but i actually have a friend, they’re not as closed or isolated as many see them to be but they still do hold stubborn to their beliefs.

We exchange a view on biblical beliefs, and sadly though, most of their ideas a really un-ethical, or out of desperate attempts to prove us false.

keep on your spiritual crusade against biblical illiteracy brother/sister?😃 in Christ.

Its unfortunate how many fall into such grave and obvious heresy.

Although I must admit I don’t mind listening to a JW when they come to my door, (after all I need to show respect and be a good listener; in hopes that they will show the same respect back and let me show them a few things in return.)

Many times though, (and I’ve had over 25 stop by my house over the last 5 years), they don’t want to hear what we have to say, or show them in return, why we believe what we believe.

To make matters worse, I might add they Do need to remember that they knocked on my door They weren’t asked to stop and take me away from whatever I was doing…so Respect of the Homeowner…should be top on their list.

If there are any JW’s out there reading this post, please note, if you knock on someone’s door, be polite, say what you have to say, then by all means, be Willing to listen back. When you ask someone if they’d like to have a Bible Study and *“Learn what the Bible really teachers”. * (this is the name of the book they want to teach out of)

Please, note that someone, like me, just might want to have a Two way Bible Study at the same time…with you…from our Catholic Books, that will Truely teach you what the Bible Really teaches…

You are quite right friend. Excuse us please.
I do Jehovah’s Witness Bible work and quite agree listening is important and polite. We are often reminded of this. Here is a paragraph from a recent article used at our meetings:

"… If people are willing to share their thoughts, patiently listen without needlessly interrupting. (Jas. 1:19) Graciously acknowledge their comments. (Col. 4:6) … Avoid being dogmatic or argumentative.—2*Tim. 2:24,*25.
How others respond to our questions may depend much on how we listen. People can tell if we are listening with our heart. A traveling overseer observed, “When you show patient willingness to listen to people, it has the amazing power to attract and is a wonderful expression of warm personal interest.” Listening to others accords them honor, and it may move them to listen to the good news that we seek to share.—Rom. 12:10. "

So we are suppsed to listen to you!
If some of us are over zealous in wanting to share what we have learned, I hope you will forgive us.

we already have, but would you listen to know that the The Watchtower Society became an Associate member of the United Nations Department of Public Information (UN/DPI) in February 1992 and maintained this membership until October 2001?

  1. I was visited by a handsome (white) young couple. They came in, sat down, discussed few things in good manner. I offered then food and drink. They did not take it. They gave me some booklets and went away. They had told me they were from England.
  2. Later I found that they had hired a house nearby.
  3. Then much later, another JW came to my house. He had been a Hindu and later had become a Muslim and then become a chrostian (?) and perhaps then he became a JW. He was quite old but in very good apparant health (shining bright brown fellow of Indian origin). He was not much educated but he had a bible, all pages marked (underlined) at different places. Seemed he had done much work on the bible.
I offered him food and drink. He took it all. We became friends and had some good time together.
  1. Later while shopping, I found another good old (white) man with a car near to the place where that couple had earlier lived. I talked to the man and found out that he was the father of one person of the couple who had visited me earlier. But we did not discuss much.
  2. The booklets I did not read for long time, until one day I started reading them. I found that the books were quite good. I found that JW’s were very peaceful people, not going near any fighting, killing, army work. That was my impression of those people from the booklets.
  3. Otherwise, I had some experience of the effort of the JW’s in their bible study. They do a lot of work on bible. They are engaged in peaceful preaching quite well.

Not only that, all you need to say to a JW is where does Jesus mention a JW in the New Testament? And why would He wait 2,000 years to call you that? Gets them every time. 😃

Really? I wouldnt recommend it as an apologetic strategy - they could easily retort where in the NT does Jesus mention a Catholic, or Roman Catholic.

Well, Jesus had certainly mentioned the church when He said His church is universal, when He founded the Catholic church when He spoke to St. Peter…but you already knew this…as for the word Catholic, it was mentioned as early as the year 107 A.D. by St. Ignatius…but you already knew this… I guess his church needed to be called by something, no? (Excuse me while I answer this pm about don’t take the bait from you.)…
Not ONE Apologist will debate this, ever…but nice try.

Adelore,
They’ll be back once they give you time to forget they had been there, and the conversation can safely be directed to a different topic.

I find it spiritually exhausting. It grieves me that they deny the Crucifixion, the Cross, and the Divinity of Christ, and they sail past it as if it means nothing. They even try to teach that Jesus and St. Michael the Archangel are the same people because they are mentioned in the same passage.

Regardless,

I’m glad you are here, but would you mind writing in your religion on your profile? It helps us figure out what you are saying and why.

Your retort was where does JESUS mention JWs.

He doesnt, and he doesnt mention catholic, catholic church, roman catholic either. Remember, its what JESUS said, not St, Ignatius. You rules for apologetics, remember. But you know that

Hence advising someone to simply ask if Jesus mentioned something is very poor apologetics.
(Excuse me while I answer this pm about don’t take the bait from you.)…

Thanks for your opinion Planten. Interesting to hear how we come across.

You will find the JW’s come from all races, educations, classes and religions. Most were not brought up JW’s.
I did a little survey in my congregation and found 70% had not had JW parents. They came in contact as adults, studied the Bible with them for a year or so and decided to join.
Some had started studying to proove the JW’s wrong! and eventually decided it was the truth. That fascinates me.

Not heaps from Islam though. We are banned from teaching the Bible in most Muslim countries and have to do so very discreetly.

Did you know (like Islam) we believe there is only one God, the creator. Not a trinity as most of Christendom teaches. The Bible doesn’t teach that, and we base all our beliefs on what the Bible prophets say. Especially Jesus.

Adelore,

We cover the territory as often as possible. Will only no call if specifically asked. No safety of topic consideration needed.

1 thess 4:16 describes the command of Jesus as “the archangels call” in most Bibles. Jude 9 calls the archangel Michael. What is the problem?

On the cross: Did you know the cross is a religious symbol that pagans used long before Christ walked the earth. I am trying to upload (but not sure if it has worked) a photo i took in the British Museum of a carving of a 700BC Assyrian king with a cross around his neck, worshipping a trinity of his gods.

Why would the true Christians adopt pagan customs and beliefs?
Regardless,

I’ve worked out how to add that. Thanks.

oops. I’ve posted the photo twice somehow. I’ll get there eventually. 😊

As with most new, not very popular/well known cults, that’s not surprising. Also, I doubt you can know that all of the 70% converts “studied the Bible with them for a year or so and decided to join.”

-Trotsky started out against Lenin’s party which eventually became Communism.
-Josephus was originally a Jew who fought the Romans and became so Romanized that he viewed the emperor Vespasian as the Messiah.

The point is, when someone gets duped, it doesn’t matter if they were fighting against what they got duped into in the first place.

Right, I mean, if you did have access, you’d probably have tons of converts from Islam. Look at the similarities between your religion and Islam:

-Dude comes hundreds of years later telling everyone Christianity was changed.
-Dude comes and rewrites the Bible.
-Dude invents/reinstates a bunch of doctrines/regulations.
-Dude then proclaims himself as God’s last prophet.

First, Christ himself used the cross and the apostles used it as much as saying that “we proclaim christ crucified” that’s why we use the cross to proclaim christ. This is an apostolic teaching.

Second, Before Christianity, no religion ever believed in a single Deity consisting of three persons. the ancient Egyptian mythology for God is a Triad and not a Trinity in the christian sense ("three distinct Persons as “God” yet insists that there is but one God. "). The Egyptians never considered them to be three persons in one God, but as separate gods

So the Catholic Christian concept of the Trinity is quite unique to world religions, not copied from another faith but progressively revealed by God in Sacred Scripture.
