The whole topic of YHWH’s orginal purpose for Israel at Exo 19:3-6 is a detailed discussion. YHWH said that IF Israel kept his standards, they would have a special role:Revelation claims that the 144,000 are from the 12 tribes of Israel. But, I’m a Gentile. Now what? Redefine “Israel”? I always though it strange that JWs had more than 144,000 members long ago. So, why keep searching for more, and who’s not going?
(Exodus 19:3-6) And Moses went up to the [true] God, and Jehovah began to call to him out of the mountain, saying: “This is what you are to say to the house of Jacob and to tell the sons of Israel, 4*‘YOU yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, that I might carry YOU on wings of eagles and bring YOU to myself. 5And now if YOU will strictly obey my voice and will indeed keep my covenant, then YOU will certainly become my special property out of all [other] peoples, because the whole earth belongs to me. 6And YOU yourselves will become to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to say to the sons of Israel.”
The promise was they would become “A Kingdom of Priests”… In other words, they would become a Government of Priests providing spiritual direction and leadership over others… “all other peoples”…
Unfortunately, Israel didn’t fulfill their part of the bargain and this opportunity was passed to another “Israel” made up of anointed Christians.
Originally there were 2 groups: Israel (The Kingdom of Priests) and “all other peoples”. Likewise, there are still 2 groups today.
You read about these two groups in Revelation… the 144,000 of “Israel” and the great crowd.
Most Bible readers blindly believe everything in the Bible letters applies to them… They often gloss over the first few sentences of each Bible book to notice who the letter was written to…Most think their destined for heaven, but overlook scriptions like Matt 5:5; Psa 37:9-11 which talk about peaceful meek persons inheriting the earth and living forever upon it.
