I have not expectation that people outside of the US would get this.
Sadly, many people in the US, who should get it, are in denial.
I wonder how it must feel to think you’re so inept that the only way you can accomplish something is by getting a kick-start from the government.
Fascinating.

I will reverse myself on this, as I was suckered in by FOX’s choice of headline. The program could work and would not target black families per se. That was my first complaint, again, based on the headline, which I find faulty.

Still, I think that Senator Harris needs to consider the historical disaster of creating an artificial housing bubble. She probably also needs to refresh herself on the implications of the 14th Amendment.

What Congress would even consider any of these “plans” Presidential candidates announce?

It’s a good conversational piece though.

Maybe the answer is the government should limit its activities to the enumerated powers in article 1, section 8. Then “hand outs” wouldn’t be an issue.
Very few people care what the Constitution says.

Kamala is quoted as saying it’s targeted at Blacks, why do you doubt her?

I think it’s extremely irresponsible to start handing out checks to people for $25k because they can’t save up any down payment. The unintended consequences are obvious when you start handing out $100b in free money.

HUD already offers some assistance in this area, maybe their programs just need an injection of funds.

Huh?
This is not about some inherent aspect of blackness.

It is about the way that history and culture shape the systemic racism with a society, and how in the daily life that systemic racism is manifest.

We have had a problem, in that regard, that is different than most if not every nation.
And while we have made great progress, there is still a ways to go - and the perception of how far still breaks down along color lines.
It is very difficult to sum up, you can only really get a feel for it by living here.

The article says:
The program would target residents in red-lined communities – areas the Home Owners’ Loan Corporation has dissuaded lenders from investing in – which her campaign identified as a culprit behind wealth disparities.
“Kamala is quoted as saying it’s targeted at Blacks”? Not in this article.

Your reading comp is failing again, there are multiple quotes where she explicitly states she’s targeting the black community.

I never said she said the program would be exclusive to blacks though

The context is that “All lives matter” has been given as a response to - and, in context, a negation of - the thinking underlying the meme “Black lives matter”, which was developed in light of pertient events.
Not a negation, but an expansion of the concept that lives do matter. It started, particularly, with George Zimmerman ‘s acquittal, followed by the Ferguson Missouri events and others.
The movement ( regardless of how it is organized) is extremist leftist. For instance, they do not seem to be particularly involved in drawing attention to the obscene number of black babies killed by abortion, or the number of young black men killing other black men in the inner cities.

Certainly not the subject of the OP or her 20 or 21 fellow candidates.

This issue isn’t about killing it’s about working.

Giving the laborer his due.

Everyone that “works” is entitled to benefit (entitled!~) from their brow sweat.

This concept put forth by K. Harris is inspiring and rests also on Catholic teaching including the thoughts that a laborer is due his pay. How? The teachings on “private property” are rooted in the knowledge that “ownership” has profound benefits and in the case of the poor, property and ownership is a freedom that offers a pathway to the American dream.

Our Church has it right and I would suggest that this far surpasses that of monetary hand-outs here today and gone tomorrow. Many persons have no experience handling money without counseling and besides what kind of price tag can be put on years of ones life not even being considered a human in a country they were brought to. I personally don’t care for Harris as a candidate, but no one says she doesn’t have a brain…Wise.

But no one is entitled to the benefit of someone else’s brow sweat.
You don’t deny a man an inheritance to their children. Our own bible talks of inheritance, and it was a value that we placed on passing down from generation to generation something that we worked for.

They were denied that from the beginning, they were never compensated for their wages and therefore could not leave for their children what has been passed on to people like you and me.

They had no “start”…It’s the bootstrap mentality of pulling oneself up out of the mire but have no boots.

No, that’s what progressives do. I don’t deny it because, since it is his property, he should have the right to pass it on to his children, or others as he chooses.

Correct.

Not by me. Not by my family. Go find those who did it.

There are many wealthy Americans and those who are not wealthy who would likely be willing to volunteer to help. That’s the charitable way to right the wrong.

And should we wait till 2020 to lend a helping hand up, and not “out”??

That’s exactly what this is…it’s not a monetary handout, it’s a rooted theological economical Truth, that property and ownership increases the likelihood of the ability to contribute to society, either through the pride of ownership we all can feel, or knowing it’s the poor mans stock market, a piece of real estate pie.

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. Proverbs 13:22

Look closely at Proverbs. Usually when we see “righteous” we think of the righteousness of the morality, the righteousness of morality, and all good things, but look at this proverb again.

There is no righteousness we can claim as good if we do not recognize that those that contributed to this nation by means of labor intense work, although they be dead, are owed retribution. It’s the truly righteous thing to do. They were denied the right that immigrants were, to “build” their livings and hand them down to the next generation-----That’s what this nation was built on, actually that’s “how” it was built.

And should we wait till 2020 to lend a helping hand up, and not “out”??
Maybe the senator could start by establishing a foundation and invite people to contribute. Why wait until 2020?
That’s exactly what this is…it’s not a monetary handout
So, she is not suggesting taxpayer money involvement? Okay. I still think she could start a foundation.

As I said, that’s fine. Start a foundation to fix it. But you don’t take money from those who have no guilt in order to do it. Two wrongs do not make a right.

Thats an issue as well. I’ll think of this the next time I travel by rail or walk into an historic building that I’d enjoy visiting.

If I’m eating a pie you sold, it may have gone through several hands but you do deserve your price.

Good day!~

While I actually believe rail belongs in private hands, This is the typical tactic of conflating the general welfare with individual welfare. Unless the senator’s plan is for everyone, like rail service is available to everyone, the comparison is faulty.
If I’m eating a pie you sold, it may have gone through several hands but you do deserve your price.
If the pie I made passed through several hands, each may have tacked on their price for handling.
