Kansas Supreme Court Strikes Down Romeo and Juliet Law

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - The Kansas Supreme Court on Friday unanimously struck down a state law that punished underage sex more severely if it involved homosexual acts, saying “moral disapproval” of such conduct is not enough to justify the different treatment.

Ill have to say coming out of such a conservative state, with such conservative governors who appoint these justices, and a conservative voting body who votes to retain these justices, is a surprise.

Kansas is far from conservative. We have a liberal Democrat pro-choice governor, and a well-known late-term abortion facility which draws business from throughout the country.

On the other hand, there is a strong anti-evolution faction controlling the school system, and much opposition to legalized gambling.
