Katy Perry says she 'prayed the gay away' as a youth

Why is this such a long and heavy argument…

Generally, most unbiased professionals in the field of science/psychology would say that there is no gay gene found, but there are biological factors that have shown to play a role in sexual orientation and actual biological differences between a straight man and a gay man. However, it is not as clear-cut (ie they cannot authoritatively say that when_______ happens, one will end up gay.) and science is still, hopefully, trying to find out more about it.

With that said, there is also external events that shape one’s orientation. Usually people who fall under this find that it is possible for their attractions to fade or change over time.

We learnt some of these factors in class recently. Both SJWs and the overly religious Christians were fine with it. It didn’t affect their views, generally.

It’s honestly not one or the other. Even if it is just biological, it doesn’t contradict religion. And even if it is just environment, it does not mean that one can be “cured”

Corinthian “homosexuality” was nothing like its modern meaning. It was more aking to a tamer pedophilia.
In Greek culture, it was normal for men to have much younger students to share everything with, including sex. Having sex with a younger man was considered a norm, as it would teach him how to do it with others. This was independent from the sexual orientation - most of this young students had sex with older men to practice for their future wives -, it was a cultural habit. Therefore, you could renounce to it because it was a choice, independent from sexuality, which is (scientifically proven) not a choice.
Therefore, St. Paul was NOT talking about regular gay men. He was talking about this peculiar habit of Corinthian - and Greek - people, considered as disgusting by Romans (including St. Paul). As a matter of fact, gay men were most commonly identified as eunuchs - man lacking masculine qualities, both literally (if their sex organs had been cut off) and figuratively (if they were effeminate and/or homosexual). And Jesus had absolutely nothing againist eunuchs (Matthew 19:12). Also, God “can’t” deliver you from homosexuality - meaning that there are no reported cases of “miraculous sexual healings”. A lot of gay people feel bad about it, a lot pray to be delivered, but nothing happens. And besides - it would be pretty whimsical, coming from God: with all the people praying for healing of a loved one, for cessation of wars, for spiritual strenghth on much graver matters, He answers a person unwilling to bear his weight in this world - and a relatively light one, since he/she was born in a century where the Church does not burn you at stake for being gay and the entire world tries to be more open-minded and accepting about your sexuality?
Wrong.

If you read the first chapter of Romans, St. Paul clearly referred to those who burned with unnatural lust for someone of the same gender - not someone offering up a tutorial on what to do with your future opposite-gender spouse.

If those are your** opinions**…
No, they’re CONVICTIONS, based on good evidence already beaten to death. **Can you say the same? **
…then I frankly have nothing to discuss with you. You hold utmost respect towards people like Nicolosi, whose therapies have been banned in numerous states and have been publicily shunned. Get a look around the web, you’ll find out he’s not quite the good samaritan you believe him to be.
Other sites say the opposite. And you didn’t listen to his own words…?
I believe God is far greater [He’s infinitely greater!] than any of us, and loves SSA people more than any of us can ever even begin to grasp.
At no point have i said that God doesn’t love SSA people, along with everyone else. But He wills that we sinners turn away from sin. “Love the sinner, but hate the sin.”
And you’re SO respectful you act as if you knew His will so perfectly…sorry, but unless you’re a prophet of some kind,** your arrogance** shows much more disrespect to Him.
So, God condones sodomy!!! And He creates men to commit just that???
Hope you don’t mean that, but if you do, again it seems that i know His will better than you do! No one has to be a prophet to understand the Church’s teachings on this subject. They come straight from God.
That word “arrogance” is out of place. In fact, i **HUMBLY **submit to the Church’s INFALLIBLE teachings on Faith and Morals, rather than **ARROGANTLY **siding with “The World”, and giving Her non-PC teachings the flick.
Also, funny how you call me cholerich. Your stream of insults [Good Joke!] (and please, don’t tell me that “demonically driven” is an objective statement [Sadly, it is.]), your claims that those who actually support NO, i said those who legislate!] them are “darkened” (because, of course, you’re an enlightened genie) just reinforce my decision to cut this conversation.
That paragraph raises my speculation to certainty. There’s a progression with succeeding posts.
Your insults outnumber mine, and are more personal. My efforts at self-restraint have resulted in a perforated tongue. It’s a pity that i’m not game to respond in kind. Forum Rules…
You clearly don’t know LGBT people.** Many of them are much happier than many regular couples.**
That’s sad, and contrary to God’s will, as already stated, and as any decently catechised Catholic should know.
Also, it goes both ways: as long as you take such a bigoted [typical PC word] stance, I won’t be able to take you’re posts seriously.
When each of us falls off the perch, we’ll find out, won’t we.
With that said…good day, sir.
No: “Good night.”. It was 12 minutes past midnight over here. Those meridians of longitude are a pest. The Flat Earth Society has a lot going for it. 🤷

I remember there was a guy once (can’t really remember his name, though) who went around Israel preaching peace and love…
Bah, who cares. Back to bashing whoever is different than us - after all, what else can a good Christian do?
😃
That “guy” also mentioned hell a fair few times. He said: “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”(John14:15). Our Lord was tough when it was necessary. No (flowers-in-the-hair-hippy-type) false “peace and love” with Him! He gave us the** HARD SAYINGS**.
More putting false words in mouths (etc) in that third sentence.

In the context, the words used were good enough.
If you knew how long it takes this slug brain to submit even a simple post, you wouldn’t wonder why i was “too tired” to search. It took hours to do that post! Endless procrastination…editing…etc. More than fed up with it!!! Good job the final-chance edit time is “only” 20 minutes.
Wrong.

If you read the first chapter of Romans, St. Paul clearly referred to those who burned with unnatural lust for someone of the same gender - not someone offering up a tutorial on what to do with your future opposite-gender spouse.
Woeful, or more likely, subversive, “catechesis” has led far too many Catholics to this pass! What other explanation can there be?

There’s little or no point in trying to get through to some mis-informed folks! 🤷

Okay a few things. You should really look up the words humility, charity, and compassion. Basically every post you have made here has thrown insults and attacks against the person who disagrees with you as you claim to the the ‘True Catholic TM.’ It neither is an effective tool to converting a person to the view you believe to be true nor good behavior to have as a Christian.

You’re convictions are use but not based completely in theology so meaningless. Once could be convicted the world is flat doesn’t mean its right. You completely ignore aspects of the fall thus your perspective is missing a key component of our word. I don’t not understand how we can see the fall manifest in some many ways yet you see incapable of considering the possibility that a person could have it manifest as same sex attraction. This does not mean God is ‘creating a person’ like that. However, God being God, can use that cross as a path for sanctification of that person which in many cases is a thorn in that person’s side for life (BUT we know that with God’s Grace we can overcome temptation). KEY thing here is overcome temptation but not never again be tempted.

One more thing being anti-PC does not give you the right to act like a petulant child flinging insults with smug arrogance at everyone who might disagree with you (the defense that they insulted you therefore it’s okay I insulted you less is also very childish). That’s rather pathetic and shows a true lack of any semblance of maturity.

I’d suggest you read people like Wesley Hill, Ron Belgau, and spiritiualfriendship.org before you declare your view as the only valid one for a person who believes and adheres to a traditional sexual ethic. NARTH isn’t Gospel and Nicolsi isn’t a prophet. He is a flawed man and his therapies are at best imperfect.

Wrong.

If you read the first chapter of Romans, St. Paul clearly referred to those who burned with unnatural lust for someone of the same gender - not someone offering up a tutorial on what to do with your future opposite-gender spouse.
Well…there was a difference. As you said, this verses were inside the Romans, who had no such habit and in fact considered it quite scandalous.
Corinthians, on the other hand, were Greek, and possessed dofferent values and habits.

No, they’re CONVICTIONS, based on good evidence already beaten to death. **Can you say the same? **
I can.
Oh, if I can.
I can give you I don’t know how many sources to back up my claims - objective sources, that is.
In fact, here is to you.

politico.com/magazine/story/2015/06/gay-marriages-better-than-straight-marriages-119465

A scientidic experiment that goes againist your claim that “nothing merry” is in SSA union.

A couple about the inborn factor

One from the (relatively) trusty wikipedia.

And of course, quite some knowledge I got from not-Internet sources.

Now, those “beaten to death” evidence of yours - can you show me some objective proof of it?
Or even some theological evidence?
Because otherwise, your “convictions” are just as worthless as those who are “convinced” through “evidence” that the moon is just an hologram or the earth iis flat.
Other sites say the opposite. And you didn’t listen to his own words…?
I did, and there is no point in that. You can’t judge a man from what he says. Nobody will ever say “No my methods don’t work I am a liar”. You can judge a person basing from the actions said person makes and through the opinions other people have of him.

Given that the pro-websites were mostly fundamentalists with a certain disdain for objective truth (LifeSite to cite one), I find them definately less reliable than science-based ones (or blogs publishing experiences of actual gay people who went through therapy).
At no point have i said that God doesn’t love SSA people, along with everyone else. But He wills that we sinners turn away from sin. “Love the sinner, but hate the sin.”
Maybe you never said it, but your post are not loving either.
So, God condones sodomy!!!
Probably not (and I say probably because I am not Him), but I strongly doubt He’s so offended by it as you seem to be.
And He creates men to commit just that???
Yes.
God does not create a man to have sex. He created us to live, think, create and bring good.
But he does create men with different sexual orientations.
How can I be so sure?
Simple. “Born eunuch” is a reference to those men who were not deemed virile enough - and often, who felt attraction towards other men, not because, like other eunuchs, their sex organs had been removed, but because they were born this way.
And guess what a certain guy said…?
Check Matthew 19:12.
Hope you don’t mean that, but if you do, again it seems that i know His will better than you do! No one has to be a prophet to understand the Church’s teachings on this subject.
Too bad you theological claims about homosexuals not being born as such are nowhere to be found in any serious theology book.
They come straight from God.
That word “arrogance” is out of place. In fact, i **HUMBLY **
submit to the Church’s INFALLIBLE teachings on Faith and Morals, rather than **ARROGANTLY **siding with “The World”, and giving Her non-PC teachings the flick.

There is a difference between “siding with the world” and “using your common sense, reason and knowledge based of facts and evidence”.
And yeah, you’re so humbly submitted that your previous statement that SSA people were not created as such by God goes againist what the Pope himself said.
That paragraph raises my speculation to certainty. There’s a progression with succeeding posts.
Your insults outnumber mine, and are more personal. My efforts at self-restraint have resulted in a perforated tongue. It’s a pity that i’m not game to respond in kind. Forum Rules…
Hey, they’re not insults - they’re objective statements, right? 😉

Also, explain how my “insults” are more “personal”.
That’s sad, and contrary to God’s will, as already stated, and as any decently catechised Catholic should know.
No, they’re not sad. At all. I do have (unlike, I assume, you) LGBT friends, and when they do find someone they love, I am just as happy for them as I would for everyone else.
How is loving someone else againist God’s will?

And, by the way, if being a decent Catholic means this, I much rather prefer being a decent person, thank you.
When each of us falls off the perch, we’ll find out, won’t we.
Wow. Do you really have to complain about everything?
First SSA people, now “PC community”?
No: “Good night.”. It was 12 minutes past midnight over here. Those meridians of longitude are a pest. The Flat Earth Society has a lot going for it. 🤷
I SAID GOOD DAY!

Calling a spade a spade has never been popular, has it!
You should look up the word “rage”.
False
Those previous posts were too long already without bringing consequences of the Fall into it. In any case, there’s a difference between creating a person SSA, and using SSA to sanctify a person. Believe it or not, i was quite aware of that truth. Some of you here are more than a bit too ready to put false words into the mouths of others. The Eighth Commandment applies.
One more thing being anti-PC does not give you the right **to act like a petulant child flinging insults with smug arrogance at everyone who might disagree with you **!!!](the defense that they insulted you therefore it’s okay I insulted you less is also very childish). YOUR OWN INSULTS are blatant and breathtaking, and yet you accuse someone else of the same thing! (Re-read your post.)
And your incendiary language doesn’t cow me.
Also, your ideas concerning insults etc are pretty selective. Certainly a personal attack out of all proportion…! What’s behind it?
I’d suggest you read people like Wesley Hill, Ron Belgau, and spiritiualfriendship.org before you declare your view as the only valid one for a person who believes and adheres to a traditional sexual ethic. NARTH isn’t Gospel and Nicolsi isn’t a prophet. He is [was] a flawed man and his therapies are at best imperfect.
And i’d suggest you re-read my earlier posts.

It’d pay you to be slower with your typing, or else check it after typing it. It’s a bit hard to comprehend in some places. Anger probably didn’t help. 🤷

It’s almost 1:00am!

How so? You’re not even mentioned in the third sentence. I was simply snarking at a common habit of many “Christians” to show contempt instead of love.
Is that a guilty conscience I am reading?
No, just intelligence and intuition. Based on the mistaken idea that Our Lord was all about being “touchy feely”. Simple!
Sarcasm is going to bring you nowhere.
There’s no sarcasm involved. It’s just the sad truth about the current state of “Catholic” “catechesis”. i feel sorry for those who don’t even realise it.

High-speed typing on your part!
Can’t you folks check your posts?

Now there’s a thunder storm!

It’s probably God wishing to express His opinion of this now… 😃

That’s quite understandable. The trouble is that in issues like this there can be a lot of guilt by association, so let me state for the record that Fundamentalist Protestants or Traditionalist Catholics who support Nicolosi do not thereby represent him.

And, for that matter, I think it should be noted that Dr. Nicolosi did not represent the entire “ex gay” movement.

I sure hope so…

I sure hope so…
Heh. 🙂

And you don’t even know everything I’ve read on this forum. Besides the “mythical homosexual person” business there was the push to make it illegal for gay people to come out of the closet (yes, seriously).

While I in no way claim that the “ex gay” movement is perfect, I’m glad that they don’t support that. And I could give other examples from my time in CAF as well.

Really? Can you describe some?

Really? Can you describe some?
Besides the often assertion that gay people (particular gay men) are either more likely to be pedophiles which shows up every so often, here is a particular ‘gem’ from an old thread from a user still active on here.
I believe homosexuals originate as ‘failed hetrosexuals’. Most of the homosexual people I’ve met are fat (or otherwise physically defective), effeminate, kind of pretentious, but actually poorly educated…In other words, it is not imaginable they could ever get any woman. Therefore, they become homosexuals…
As for ‘gay’ women, they are normally kind of ‘butch’… So they same thing applies, I suppose.
The exception is someone like Portia della Rossi (a ‘10’ by anyone’s thinking!), or Oscar Wilde (a true genius too)- but I doubt such people were really homosexuals, but just used it as a kind of publicity act, or engaged in it as an experiment.
But seriously, I think it is a diabolic influence in society. Real genetic ‘homosexuals’ (people with defective hormones and physiology) must be rare- like hermaphrodites (maybe 0.1%). Yet, they seem to be everywhere in the media.
So, the compassion and charity when dealing with this issue can be very lacking on this forum very often. It’s a great (*sarcasm) place for a celibate gay/ssa person to get encouragement in carrying their particular cross.

I can.
Oh, if I can.
I can give you I don’t know how many sources to back up my claims - objective sources, that is…
Now, those “beaten to death” evidence of yours - can you show me some objective proof of it?
Strange wording!!!
More than enough evidence was given, so pick some other sites, and don’t show contempt for the Fundamentalists. They comprehend God better than uncountable numbers of self-proclaimed but misinformed Catholics do.
Or even some theological evidence?
Because otherwise, your “convictions” are just as worthless as those who are “convinced” through “evidence” that the moon is just an hologram or the earth iis flat.
A red herring.
I did, and there is no point in that. You can’t judge a man from what he says. Nobody will ever say “No my methods don’t work I am a liar”. You can judge a person basing from the actions said person makes and through the opinions other people have of him.
Again, you can’t help yourself.
Given that the pro-websites were mostly fundamentalists with a certain disdain for objective truth (LifeSite to cite one), I find them definately less reliable than science-based ones (or blogs publishing experiences of actual gay people who went through therapy).
To sort of repeat what was said above, the “Fundamentalists” have a better understanding of objective theological truth than you have.
Maybe you never said it, but your post are not loving either.
i don’t believe in lying to SSA people that it’s quite OK to engage in unnatural sexual activities. Your approach is** NOT** charity, it’s the exact opposite! Stop imagining you’re full of charity for these people. IF you tell them their relationship is OK, you’re nudging them closer to damnation, along with yourself.
Probably not (and I say probably because I am not Him), but I strongly doubt He’s so offended by it as you seem to be.
Scripture says differently. And Sodom and co. aren’t the only examples.
Private revelations don’t have to be believed, but:
Our Lord appeared to St Catherine of Siena and told her that after a demon has goaded two men to commit sodomy, the demon has to focus his intellect and will elsewhere. Although fallen, the demon’s angelic nature can’t “stomach” the depraved act. God’s perfect, pure nature can’t either. (Of course he’s ever ready to embrace a repentant sinner!)
Take it or leave it, but you’d be foolish to reject it.
God does not create a man to have sex. He created us to live, think, create and bring good.
Actually, God creates Man and Woman to complement each other, to have marital sex to cooperate with God in (hopefully) bringing forth future citizens of Heaven.
In this present world, that’s the main reason for marriage and family life, and when spouses remain faithful to the Church’s teachings on eg contraception, it’s a reflection of the inner Life of God.
Of course a chaste single life doesn’t offend God.
Too bad you theological claims about homosexuals not being born as such are nowhere to be found in any serious theology book.
They’re not found in any honest, serious science book, either.
Some “serious theology books” aren’t fit to be called that. Just ask the late Archbishop Sheen, Dietrich von Hildebrand, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, Scott Hahn and other great minds.
There is a difference between “siding with the world” and “using your common sense, reason and knowledge based of facts and evidence”.
And yeah, you’re so humbly submitted that your previous statement that SSA people were not created as such by God goes againist what the Pope himself said.
“Who am I to judge?” doesn’t count. But if you mean something else, it’s above the Pope’s “pay grade”, as Obama would have said.
Hey, they’re not insults - they’re objective statements, right? 😉
Also, explain how my “insults” are more “personal”.
You’re getting mixed up between two posts from two different posters.
No, they’re not sad. At all.
They’re not sad, but the spiritual consequences may be very sad, and forever.
I do have (unlike, I assume, you) LGBT friends, and when they do find someone they love, I am just as happy for them as I would for everyone else. [Misguided friendship]
How is loving someone else againist God’s will?
A good friendship is one thing, and Courage even encourages that, but going beyond that is dangerous. A near occasion of sin will eventually lead to the full act.
And, by the way, if being a decent Catholic means this, I much rather prefer being a decent person, thank you.
Very telling…and very worrying.
Your words reveal a very great deal more about your “grasp” of the Church’s primary mission on this earth than you can imagine.
i know quite well what you mean, and…
**Anyway, until you learn some orthodox Catholic catechetics, there’s no point in going on with this. i’m serious!
**

Besides the often assertion that gay people (particular gay men) are either more likely to be pedophiles which shows up every so often, here is a particular ‘gem’ from an old thread from a user still active on here.

Good Lord…🤷

Addendum to two or three things missed or loused up on previous post.
.
Maybe you never said it, but your post are not loving either.
True love doesn’t mean encouraging a person to continue his journey to the land of fire and brimstone. (St Faustina reported that the stench there would be unbelievable.)
True love/charity for any person is to respect him and to wish Heaven for him, if necessary by pointing out errors, obviously with charity.
Scripture has some things to say about this, including what happens to someone who ignores or condones another’s grave sin.
Yes.
God does not create a man to have sex. He created us to live, think, create and bring good.[and for husband and wife to have sex, for a vital purpose already mentioned.]

What Our Lord said about those men born that way refers to men born with a birth defect which prevents them from having intercourse, or men with impotence, or men with no sex drive. Considering what Scripture records about homosexual acts, and in the context of Matthew 19:12, the SSA orientation doesn’t wash.
Of course, “Gay friendly” individuals will dispute that, but it doesn’t change God’s eternal Truth.

End of PS

Really? Can you describe some?
Good Lord…🤷
Yes there are others. The post that at9009 quoted rings a bell; I think I’ve read it before or at least a very similar post. I also know that according to someone on this forum, Jack Chick (if your familiar with “Chick Tracts”) had the right approach to homosexuals.

But the thing is, such posts are not so much dangerous in themselves, but dangerous because they are so extreme that they can make other extreme views seem reasonable by comparison. From the book “Catholicism and Fundamentalism”:

“The public is always willing to accept someone or some organization that appeals to its unrespectable prejudices if it can, at the same time, reject propagandists at the fringe.”

(Not that that applies to this topic more than others. When I go on the Non Catholic Religions forum I can hear that Protestants are led by the devil etc etc. And don’t even get me started about the anti-Catholic stuff on the CARM forum.) So in the end I guess the best thing is not to pay too too much attention to anonymous posts on the internet. (Unfortunate corollary of that being people paying less attention to my own posts as well. 😦 ;))
