We were talking about hiring into a life tenure position.
A spouse is a “life tenure.”

Your “lingering uncertainty” qualms might be a factor with someone being considered for marriage. It still wouldn’t be a disqualifying factor, especially since everyone else that knows the prospective mate speaks highly of them, and no one else supports the single witness speaking badly against them.

Kavanaugh’s position isn’t that of being at the stage of selecting a mate or friend, but more like after years of marriage or friendship since he has been a judge for quite a long time.

He has proven himself, to a degree that a mere “lingering uncertainty” is certainly not disqualifying.

Hiring ought to be based upon competency, not ideological possession.
Competency - including freedom from ideological bias, character, comportment, temperment.
Your “lingering uncertainty” is itself a highly questionable criterion,
On a search your obligation it to the institution, seeking the best outcome for the institution, consistent with equitable treatment of every candidate.

Hopefully, Kavanaugh and Ford are not treated “equally” with no regard for all mitigating factors or actual merit, but are treated as they justly deserve to be treated. That would be justice, and not the corrupt “social justice” that is being peddled by the left.

Notice how we have read the constant litany of how the FBI can’t do this and can’t do that and how it’s all so unfair-- blah blah blah. Well, guess what? For those who ranted and raved about that, they clearly were wrong, but I certainly don’t expect them to take a humble pill and admit it.
What are you talking about?
In many cases I think some here just parrot Fox, Limbaugh, and/or Breitbart, refusing to crosscheck their sources with others. I say this because I do watch Fox occasionally, a bit more lately because of the on-going judicial process, and I read the same nonsense by some here who clearly never bothered to actually check other sources that could easily have told them they were being told lies and distortions.
Again, what “lies” are you referring to?

The idea is for equitable for candidates. The committee has to make judgements about what they hear form references. But there is no responsibility for equity between candidate and reference, si I am not sure why you would go there.

I think that treating job applications like job applicants is just.

I have just come back from the US. Lovely time, lovely people as usual. And I mean it sincerely.
As usual I shared and spent time with people who happened to belong to different parties or none.
I happened also :flushed:to open my mouth to utter what it all looked like for me from the outside with say,no particular beef…
😳 “Mission impossible” to navigate through almost anything partisan there without giving the impression one is taking sides even if one is not and has the slightest interest to.
Anyway,it is always a pleasure to be there and I hope differences can be surmounted somehow . You all deserve it.

Would you hire Dr Ford?
I would not hold anything said against her, again, unless it was shown that she was a liar. If nothing is shown convincingly (say about fifty/fifty), then I she is deserving of the same benefit of the doubt as well.

That was the issue. And I don’t think that you are being unjust in your decision. Others might disagree.
It has nothing to do with her telling the truth or not.

Abused teens need to learn things this woman doesn’t exhibit
  • report abuse to stop the abuser
  • learn resilience to move beyond it destroying your life.
  • learn some degree of forgiveness to move past the anger

Either way, the much more sane, honest, and truth-seeking approach is now being done through the FBI, so let’s see what comes out of it instead of just some here spouting more and more “alternative facts”.
Let’s, then, have Joe Biden explain it to you…

Now why don’t you and Joe go off to a corner, get the Dem story of the FBI’s role in investigations straight, and come back to fill us in.

We’ll wait here and twiddle our thumbs.

That whole scene seemed staged to me to give Flake an excuse to go back and
ask for the FBI investigationbif they wanted his vote. I don’t trust Flake, I don’t trust the screaming activist in the elevator,
and I don’t trust any democrat involved in this committe to decide on the nomination of Kavanaugh. I am not sure who they think they are fooling. Neither Flake or Ford are good actors and neither was the screaming activist.

Ford had to undergo analysis as part of her academic training … 5 college degrees … and none of this came up???

HIGHLY unlikely.

While (clinical) psychologists, like physicians, do not always follow their own advice and do not have to be in perfect mental health themselves to give that advice to others, it does seem to me that Dr. Ford’s efforts to deal with her problems, in particular the claustrophobia, are quite incongruent to her own training. As to the eye movements, I can offer no expertise regarding this form of recall since my own area of specialization in psychology is in the social and cognitive branches. However, ANY psychologist worth their salt, or psychology student for that matter, would know there are more effective, cognitive-behavioral means of treatment for phobias brought on by personal trauma than the measures Dr. Ford took to treat herself.

We have heard she has a fear of flying, and a claustrophobia leading her to want to have 2 front doors.

However, she has been living in dorms and houses with only one door for decades, as well as flying to many different places.

Does this make sense to you?
