Were the Repubs interested in Merrick Garland?
They were a little bit interested. Had Mrs. Clinton won the election in 2016, Judge Garland would have almost undoubtably been confirmed by Thanksgiving 2016.

Of course once Donald J Trump was elected that changed everything, they felt they could do better for a replacement for Antonin Scalia in maintaining the ideological balance on the court.

Please note how they didn’t try to destroy Mr. Garland and his family. I don’t think they even looked at his high school yearbooks or interview of his buddies in college to rip him to shreds.

No one tried because the Senate refused to grant him confirmation hearings. And that is the ONLY reason.

The Republicans have never looked at Supreme Court nominees’ yearbooks before or questioned their high school buddies. To this day, I know nothing about when Sotomayor lost her virginity or Ginsberg’s college drinking habits. This is something new in 2018, and the Republican senators would have thought in improper in the way back year of 2016.

You do know that hearings aren’t necessary for confirmation, only a vote is needed.

None of us knows what they’ve looked at or not looked at or what they tried to cook up behind closed doors. That goes for every political party in the US.

Where did Dr. Ford, Swetnick, and Ramirez go, now that Kavanaugh was confirmed? I thought they were “seeking justice”. Or were these just tactics used to delay Kavanaugh’s confirmation?

I’m hoping we can continue to get more Constitutional Judges (like Kavanaugh) who interpret the law, not the ones who legislate from the bench.

After he was sworn in, he said he was going to start reviewing cases. That’s the only reason I think that. Otherwise I would have no idea. and, he may have decided not to review cases at this time. I’m only going by what he said. If I’d just been sworn in, I’d want to review cases, but if I were sworn in, it would be ridiculous. I sing opera and other classical music, I’m not a lawyer!
