And, by the way, as a show of good faith – and if anyone needs an antidote to the “vile” folk songs on these podcasts – allow me to suggest this anonymous 1610 fauxbourdon psalm which I happened to be listening to. The recording is excellent, and I have to say for its simplicity and rich textures it’s probably the most beautiful piece I’ve come across in at least the last month.

🙂

Lovely… but ya know I’m a Byzcath 😉 Got to have that good old Church Slavonic 👍

(Just to show I know how to go off topic, too. Hee hee)

“Keep the fire burning, kindle it with care
And we’ll all join in and sing (? not sure if that’s the correct lyric)
Sons of God, hear His holy Word
Gather 'round the table of the Lord
Eat His body, drink His blood
And we’ll sing a song of love
Allelu, allelu, allelu, allelu-ia”

OK, sorry if that’s stuck in your head now.
BTW, did you know that you can use the accompaniment part of “Heart and Soul” (the duet everyone knows how to play) as accompaniment to “Sons of God”? 😛

You know, I been playing music since the 60’s. And while I like listening to Gospel Blues. John the Revelator, etc. And I remember this Folk Mass alternative when it started.

Just was never my state of mind while attending church to get close to God through music, but more through silent, meditative prayer. . It just doesn’t connect as one of the same “with me”?

But hey, if thats what doing for you? God Bless You.

The question, though, is: when you have secular-type music at Mass, just what is it you are getting close to? Just because it feels like God (or what you think God ought to feel like) doesn’t mean it is. How often is it just our own wishful thinking?

Half-bleeped profanity and personal attacks are hardly the way to contribute postitively to any conversation, let alone this one, Snowlake.
You are so correct on that one! When the swearing starts…the one doing the swearing can’t think of anything to say and has lost the debate and his/her credibility.

:clapping:

Here We Are?

Keep the fire burning.
Kindle it with care.
And we’ll all join in and sing:

Here we are
Altogether as we sing our song
Joyfully.
Here we are
Altogether as?/and? we pray we’ll always be.
Good call. My bad. Sons of God and Here We Are run together in my mind. Actually, I think you could do them as a duet.

The reason they work together is that they have the same meter and the same chord progression - C - a minor - F - G - over and over. Same reason “Heart & Soul” works, too.

On second thought, the above question might be off-topic, even though it was mentioned in your post. Maybe you could start a new thread w/ topics that pertain to the workshop?

Also (since this is a bit off-topic), Ljubim: I’ll be posting the titles of some songs w/ changes in time signature and other oddities under the “10 worst songs” thread.

Ok cool 🙂 Melchoir never pm’d me. NB: If you’re still planning on it you can post it on this new thread or on another, it would be a cool counterargument and we’d all love to hear it.

Been busy with other stuff, mate. You can expect a PM in the next day or two 😛
