There are some odd posts on some threads.

Like focusing on what the Church teaches and on the Trinity is not doing enough regarding one’s faith.

Unless you point out the post or thread, it’s a bit difficult to judge whether it’s weird or not. The example you gave is difficult to picture.

Not hard to understand when you’re familiar with the poster.

Anyone who does more than the bare minimum is a conceited, self-righteous Catholic, at least according to EM.

Mintaka, this is just another tradition-bashing thread, unless you like to argue, don’t take it seriously. Peace.

It is not a bad thing. It is the greatest thing; however, one cannot be so prideful in thinking that all I need is Jesus, and don’t need anybody else.

Spiritual pride is not very beneficial to the soul.

How are you defining ‘all I need is Jesus’ and why introduce it?

Some items were removed from the forum and that is as it should be.

Having said that, it seems some believe that when choosing from the depth and variety of devotions and prayers available to use to focus on those directly dealing with Jesus/the Father/the Holy Spirit/the Trinity are not appropriate.

It has been implied that graces received from such devotions are lacking unless one also has a devotion to one or more saints.

The ‘bare minimum’ comment another poster made is a red herring - I suggest ignoring it.

As something like “I pray straight to the Source, and why would I have to ask someone below that Source.”
If one is called to pray the Jesus prayer outside of public liturgy rather than the rosary is that wrong?

And what has ‘spiritual pride’ have to do with it?

Absolutely there is nothing wrong with it. What is wrong about the spiritual pride is that one thinks all I need is Jesus and I don’t need Mary’s help.

How are you defining Mary’s ‘help’ in context of what I have posted so far?

She’ll help you focus on Christ. She walks with you and helps you see His Passion. She was there til the end while many apostles left.

While being hung on the Cross, Jesus granted Her to all of us for the good reason.

And all that is true but your statement would seem to imply that Jesus is not sufficient for us.

It is my contention that Mary and all the saints, but especially Mary, by virtue of being closer to Christ. Can pray much better than I can, therefore I believe, and I think the teaching of the Church supports me in this, that when Mary or any of the other saints join their prayers to mine, those prayers are more efficacious.

To me, failing to seek the assistance of Mary and the saints is similar to a situation when you have a task to do and several people available to help you, but you insist on refusing the assistance they are offering.

Christ said that where two are three are gathered he is there.

If I pray with/through Mary, I automatically have two.

Finally, a devotion to Mary will lead you no where but to the feet of her Son. She could lead you nowhere else. From the beginning, she told the servants at the wedding, “Do whatever He tells you.”

All well and good but not the aim of the thread.

What does it mean “Jesus is sufficient” for us?
Does that mean you don’t need anybody else? It looks like we all are still relying on many different helps - one obvious reason is that we are here to ask and to share things. Another reason, we pray for each other, etc … We do need each others. In fact, one cannot say he doesn’t need the Church because Jesus is enough.

We are parts of Jesus’ Body. We cannot say I don’t need other parts.

If one is called to prayer practices that do not focus on or include any of the saints - like the Jesus prayer - does that mean that person’s prayers are less effective?

Didn’t I answer this before? and I don’t think anybody here does not know. What exactly the purpose of this thread …really?

It’s obvious what the aim of the thread is, division.
I haven’t seen any thread where people say focusing on Christ is a bad thing. No Christian believes such a thing.

This thread is the result of Marian devotion’s discussions where people advice about the true meaning and its wonderful practice of the devotion of Mary.

LOL!

Not again!

There was 25+ thread discussing this already - nothing came about it but provocation. Interestingly enough, that thread was also started by the originator of this thread.
