Interesting story about the possible list of “scandals” witnessed at Senator Kennedy’s funeral Mass today:

Was it OK for President Obama to receive communion? (as it would appear that he did) Is his standing among the Catholic bishops so great that he received a “free Catholic for a day” coupon?

For the Kennedy clan and Democrat Party leadership, I guess that their stellar record of “social justice” allows them to trump Canon Law for any special occasion, at least in Boston!

Eh, there’s no proof that he did. Unless there is, I’m not going to speculate.

I was watching this live. All the networks had the same live feed to watch. All I saw was Joe Biden and his wife get up to receive and in doing so they had to walk past the Obamas in order to get to the aisle. I can’t stand Obama but I really don’t think he would receive. Heck he was sitting during the consecration. Don’t know what is proper in that situation.

As the article points out the cameras were suddenly captivated with filming the singers. My hunch is that what they were really trying to avoid is putting any more light on the fact that Joe Biden has no business receiving the Eucharist, not so much Obama.

I watched it live earlier this morning mostly in interest to see if obama would receive communion. After watching it for 2 hours it finally came to communion and as soon as the people started getting up the cameras suddenly panned around the ceiling and the musicians and such forth. I was furious although very suspicious at the same time. After hours of it focusing on the alter and the podium why suddenly at that moment focus on musicians and the ceiling for a mere 10 minutes? Very suspicious.

I also watched out of interest, not to criticize as it is a very unique moment in history. I have had high thoughts of JFK however Ted Kennedy I am not so sure after following him and his politics the last few years and what he stands for. His views were so anti-catholic I think he is lucky to have gotten the catholic mass he did. I don’t think I or anyone else that follow the faith as best as we can will get that kind of mass.

If Obama or any of the other “Public Figures” who are not catholic received communion that would be a BIG deal in my opinion as it just goes against everything I have been taught. I remember being lectured during catechism on how big of a deal it is for only confirmed Catholics can receive the Eucharist ect. If the above took place, then wouldn’t that be a blatant disregard for the Eucharist, Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the faith as a whole?

I certainly saw the Kennedy’s receive communion but I they are ““Catholic”” and they could have gone to confession before mass for all I know so I won’t talk about that. My point is if Non-Catholic pro abortionists received communion as there were many ex: cough “Obama”. That would make me sick and hurt my notion of the faith I was born into.

Am I wrong?

Just because you are president of the United States or any major political figure, celebrity, ect doesn’t give you the right to receive communion if you are NOT indeed Catholic.

Please debate if I am wrong.

I know there is no proof but maybe that is why specifically the cameras moved away for those 10 minutes at the start of communion?? Anyone else agree that is somewhat suspicious?

No. I think you are overly suspicious.

If there is no evidence that the president received Communion at this celebration, why the title of this thread?

chaz0426,
You watched a 2-hour funeral Mass “mostly to see if Obama would receive Communion??” Why?

To re-iterate that wasn’t the sole reason but I was curious at the same time. I just turned on the TV and saw it on and watched.

** Wouldn’t be the first time something like this has happened. Ever wonder why the Catholic Church is considered by many evangelicals as the Church of the Rich and Famous.** How can we forget this image. http://www.reformation.org/communion.jpg

Just out of curiosity, why is Joe Biden not to receive the Eucharist?

Please - are there really so few things you can find to complain about among what Obama has actually done, and what churchmen have actually done, that you’ve got to look at things that aren’t even proven against them to find sources of complaint? Are you spoiling that badly for a fight?

What??? You watched a funeral mass for two hours in order to see who went up for communion? Is this what some people are doing at mass on Sunday? Checking out who is and isn’t going to communion. Because when push comes to shove, it’s not really any of your business anyways.

pyro_alchemist,
Interesting. Do you have a link to an article for that picture? When and where was it? Was it definitely a Catholic church? Could it have been Episcopal or some other liturgical denomination?

President Obama did not receive communion
