I really don’t want to know what was said because whatever was said had no noticeable impact on public behavior. She will continue to push for laws that facilitate abortion. Perhaps after she looses re-election, which could be soon, she will then reconcile her views. But the damage will still be there, others will be left with a terrible legacy.
Yes and no. I believe that a lot will depend on how we look at our own faith. For me, what Ms. Pelosi believes is wrong. She is mistaken. Someone has sold her a lie and she purchased the package.
However, I have see the unborn. I have seen their parents. I have held many corpses of aborted children. I know what I saw and what I touched. I also know that parents who want to keep their children refer to them as “my baby” not “my fetus”. When they walk into one of the pregnancy centers where I serve, they ae filled with the joys, anxieties, fears and expectations of parenthood. These are not fake. They are real parental emotions. The best example that I have seen that affirms for me that the Church’s teaching on human life in the womb is true is the example of the expectant parent.
In addition, I do believe what Paul said in yesterday’s Liturgy of the Hours. If you go back into your breviary to Evening Prayer for Friday, Paul speaks about those of us who have a strong faith to be patient with those who have a weak faith and to be a source of strength for them. What Paul tells us is that there are always going to be people with weak faith. We can choose to let them drag us down or we can choose to be there to strengthen them. Those who follow the lead of someone with weak faith on this matter or any matter, do so of their own free will. They cannot blame the Pelosis and Kennedys of this world for their choices. They may have heard the messagae of the Kennedys and Pelosis, but they chose. Pelosi and Kennedy do not choose for anyone. Neither does the Church. There are both messages out there. People have to be held accountable for their choices, not blame the choice of one on the ill-begotten message of another. There are always going to be lies making their way through society. Today, they are lies about abortion. Tomorrow they will be lies about something else.
We need to approach this with a double barrel. We need to expose the lies, but we also need to stop believing that those poor souls out there who go with the lie are victims. They are not. They can find out the fact and make good choices.
All this being said, even if they make poor choices, they are still our brothers and siters.
Fraternally,
