A Los Angeles clinic is now offering made-to-order children. Pick their hair color, eyes, genetic predispositions…Father, forgive them they do not know what they are doing.

The retired president of the Pontifical Academy for Life spoke to Vatican Radio today, Bishop Sgreccia said this “is not the first time that these kinds of announcements come up, which have the objective of increasing the number of clients. In any case, it is about an ethically mistaken operation, and one that wounds the dignity of the offspring, since it is oriented toward manipulating the body, dominating it and transforming it according to one’s tastes.”
The bishop said that just as it is illicit for a child that has or could develop defects to be eliminated by negative selection, “it is also illicit to make a selection that obeys only the wishes of the parents.”
“This is a typical example of science that is not placed at the service of the good, but rather at the desires of those who buy its services; meanwhile those who pay the price in this case are the children,” he lamented. “When a norm of creation that is so delicate is violated, the law should take interest in this field.”

I believe that another place this was done was in Germany. We all know how well this worked out for them.🤷

I think this kind of thing is part of the “cult of choice.” All the attacks on life and human dignity like abortion, euthanasia, and now the new eugenics, all seem to be rooted in this idea that people have some kind of right to choose these things. As if the first two aren’t bad and evil enough, we now have this kind of thing to deal with, again. Our own stupidity and arrogance condemns us to commit the same mistakes over and over again.

There is something extra scary about the practice of designer babies. A proponent of “reprogenetics (that is, eugenics)” and scientist, Dr. Lee Silver, even admits that as science gets better at allowing the wealthy to choose the traits of their children, it could lead to the development of a caste system here in America, with an elite and powerful GenRich at the top and a poorer, far less powerful majority he calls “Naturals” at the bottom.

That might seem a little too science fiction but as we can see, the ability to design babies to get the desired results is already possible and it only requires that the science behind it becomes a little more sophisticated over time. I see nothing in all that I’ve read on the subject that indicates that they won’t.

The success of those that would allow this depends on one other factor. That is the continued dominance of the “cult of choice.” If we continue to head down the road of legal abortion, legal euthanasia, etc, the mindset required for a very frightening future will be firmly in place. Then, it is just a matter of having enough people to dole out the cash to clinics like this place in Los Angeles.

The 21st century could be a very scary place. God help us.
