Twice is good!!! Nice one…🙂
Thanks…this is one of my favorites…

One good memory of a kindness shown was that of The Superintendent of Schools in my town.

I was only about 5 or 6 —55years ago…when I was trying to cross the street to my school. I was crying my poor little heart out…I was so afraid. He saw me and he walked into the street stopped the traffic, and took my hand and crossed me…

I thought he was the grandest man who ever lived!
BTW, he was a prominent Catholic in our community as well…🙂

That was very nice. I was moved by this as God is always sending an angel in disguise. That happened to my husbands Grandmother a similar story. She was not religious but when she told the story I was amazed at the tears in her eyes as she said God sent an angel to help me cross a very busy road to get my hair done. I especially love to hear the stories of kindness to the elderly and the children, and of course let us not forget the handicapped that was a beautiful story also Amy. The kindness of others helps to move us all to be a little kinder in our own daily lives. Wonderful post.👍

I especially liked the part of being aware of our gentleness in the future… for it is in acknowledging God’s success in our lives, God’s grace in our lives, that we become more able to accept His grace and obey His will. If each time we fall we focus only on our failures and never see our success we become bitter and fail to recognize in ourselves (and therefore in others) the great gift that God gave us in creating us in His image and likeness. We must learn from our mistakes but we must also be accepting of God’s wondrous miracle in creating us at all. To be truly humble we must accept not only our flaws, and ask for God’s grace to overcome them, but our strengths, that God alone gave us, that we may use them to glorify God.
Oh Maggie, I agree with you!

Blessings!

In the interest of “Dead Threads” Bump…maybe this one can be resurrected…😉

And of course the great model for kindness, the Prayer of St Francis…

Make me a channel of your peace…

C’mon, everybody sing along! 🙂

Excellant book! It’s been years since I read it. I’ll have to see if I still have it and read it again. 👍

I’ve always liked the bumper sticker that said something like Help Promote World Peace–Perform Random Acts of Kindness!

**

Be kind and merciful

Let no one ever come to you without coming away better and happier.

Be the living expression of God’s kindness:

kindness in your face,
kindness in your eyes,
kindness in your smile,
kindness in your warm greeting.

In the slums, we are the light of God’s kindness to the poor.

To children,
to the poor,
to all who suffer and are lonely,
give always a happy smile -

Give them not only your care,
but also your heart.

~ Mother Theresa

I love the above quote, words to live by. Included in my daily prayers on the way to work each morning, I always ask that I may leave those I come into contact with better than they were before me in at least some small way.

New thoughts? Wish I could say something from a wise person, but at the moment, I can only offer you my thought on random acts of kindness as some sort of defiance. Of course, not for defiance’s sake, at least not solely, but for their own sake, as well as defiance to the world and certain powers that be, which do not like random kindness or random goodness. A sign against the world would sound pompous, but let’s say something of that kind.

what a great thread! i think showing kindness esp. to those who receive little kindness, like the ones being bullied, laughed at, scorned at , ignored is also good. sometimes i think to myself, whenever i’d feel sad/angry for being laughed at, i remind myself that they are a lot more people who feel worse than i do. so we all share in our sufferings and Christ’s sufferings.

Yup, that is right. What about insisting on showing kindness to those who are currently showing you the opposite? Any experience with that? I think they often either back off or expose themselves beyond doubt in such cases.

Some Dos and Don’ts of Kindness… (From the book, Kindness, by Fr. Lawrence Lovasik, pg.12):

Dont’s:
  1. Don’t speak unkindly of anyone.
  2. Don’t speak unkindly to anyone.
  3. Don’t act unkindly toward anyone.
Dos:
  1. Do speak kindly of someone at least once a day.
  2. Do think kindly about someone at lest once a day.
  3. Do act kinly toward someone at least once a day.

I was just thinking of an act of kindness that helped me very much several years ago. I was pregnant with my fifth child. My husband and I had had a rough year struggling over the issue of contraception that led to me refusing to use contraception and he refusing to abstain. Which led to…baby number 5. My husband was very upset about the whole pregnancy. I wrote to a friend who had moved away and poured my heart out.

She sent me a box of cute maternity clothes (she had just had a baby). It meant so much to me. It was the turning point for me to stop fretting over the difficulties with my husband and to start looking forward to the birth of my baby. I doubt she knows how much that meant to me.

BTW, my husband’s favorite is this little boy #5. He is such a delight. And, baby number six was intentionally conceived with NFP.

I think any impulse of kindness should be carried through. It may be a little thing to the deliverer, but it can be life changing for the recipient.

And, sometimes, it’s just a smile. So easy to give.
