It’s a safe bet to say that the majority of married people in these forums have not had intercourse outside of their marriage, but what about kissing? How many of us are guilty?

I am not talking about the typical innocent peck on the cheek at the employer’s Christmas party, I’m talking about one or more regrettable occurrences of deep kissing that DID NOT lead to sexual relations… thank God!

If you are guilty, why did you do it? Did it effect your marriage?

Passionate kissing is foreplay. Why would I engage in foreplay with someone other than my husband?

I would like to believe that it would be a" safe bet to say that the majority of us married people in these forums" have not engaged in such passionate kissing! Why would you think otherwise? Furthermore, I don’t see how doing that could not effect your marraige! I mean, Holy Mother Church even warns courting and engaged couples to beware of such actions since they can act as great temptations to go much further…

If you think that kissing isn’t infidelity, then you haven’t witnessed your spouse in the act and tried to forgive them.

Looks to me like the percentages are wrong. 17 out of 17 No’s is 100%. Eight out of 9 no’s is 89%.

I’ve never even been in a situation that would lead to kissing someone other than my husband. I think that’s part of being married–you never allow yourself to be in a situation that might tempt you to infidelity. If you sense something not quite right, you run, don’t walk, away from it!

I would be interested in hearing about a situation that led to “kissing infidelity.” Why would you be alone for any length of time with someone of the opposite sex other than your spouse? My husband is an ice dancer, and he hangs out with his partner for several hours a week, but they are in an ice skating rink or in a car full of other ice skaters. And he works with women in the computer industry, but the office doors are always open, and generally, people walk in and out.

Maybe I’m just not beautiful enough to attract another man or my husband isn’t hot enough to attract another woman. Perhaps it’s an issue that only babes and hunks deal with? I’m definitely not a babe! And my husband is cute, but he’s not hunk-a-hunka!

Seriously, I don’t get this at all.

I’m having difficulty coming to terms with the fact that my husband exchanged intimate emails with a co-worker, heaven help me (and him!) if I ever considered/found out he had kissed her or anyone else intimately!

I am purple up to my ears researching infidelity, it makes me so sick to think of what level of “soul compromising” so many Catholics, including my husband!, are willing to put effort into!

I am starting to think that Catholics know that since we (the church) don’t believe in divorce, they can risk their souls and just go to reconciliation and be done with their guilt…

I am sick to death of all the cheaters out there! What the hell is wrong with everyone…doesn’t the sacrament mean anything to anyone anymore!!!

I would consider kissing to be unfaithful. And no, I’ve never been unfaithful since DH and I decided to date - 15 years ago.

“Kissing Infidelity?” How about just calling it infidelity?!? You don’t have to have intercourse to be unfaithful. And anyone who would be at the point to engage in passionately kissing a man or woman other than their spouse has certainly been unfaithful.

I guess I must be missing something?

If that were truly the case, they would not be expressing true contrition. And thinking you can sin all you like since you’ll be free of it in Confession… that would be the added sin of presumption.

I’m sorry for what you found out! My heart would be broken, too.

Thanks, I can’t stand his guts right now…I cannot wrap my brain around what he could’ve possibly been thinking. Married almost 25 years and NOW this happens, what a bunch of ****! I think he has taken advantage of my spirituality and commitment to the Lord, what a jerk…

Makes me wonder how long I’ve really been a fool?

You HAVEN’T been a fool. You are supposed to trust your spouse. You trusted him to remain faithful because YOU have remained faithful. You are not a fool for that. He is a fool for what HE has done to his faithful wife.

:console:

I will include you in my prayers tonight.

Thanks Lerin,

I appreciate your kind words and especially your prayers, I need all I can get right now. 😦

I’ve had buddies, aquaintences and few close friends confide in me with their most personal issues over the years because I’ve got twenty-five plus years of marriage behind me and they know that I can keep my mouth shut.

The common thread that seems to run through all of these indiscretions whether they became full blown sexual relationships or just inappropriate emotional attachments to another woman is this: At some point after they got married, every single one of them felt as if they had lost their girlfriend. I always ask them that question. “When you got married, did you lose your girlfriend?” I’ve had buddies break down on me talking about feeling a sense of loss. They all regreted what they did.

I’m not talking about scumbags who hang out in bars and pick up one night stands while their wife is at home taking care of the children. These guys were good men who didn’t know how to confront the real issue. Many of them were afraid to bring it up with their wives. One guy who did bring it up was called “immature & selfish” because he wanted some alone time with her. His wife had school activites and kid’s sports scheduled nearly every single night including weekends.

None of these guys were proud of what they did. Every single one of them were lonely. Often times, a wife is overly involved with kids and their activities, relatives, work, friends whatever. The same thing happens to “sports widows”. The guy that spends too much time with his buddies on the weekend is asking for trouble. The man & wife relationship must come first or infidelity (on some level) is almost a guarantee.

No, you’re not a fool. You are angry and rightly so. But please step back from your anger for a few hours today and think about what I’ve written here.

God Bless you and your husband.

Prayers coming at ya!

😉

Wow, sounds like the wife is to blame for infidelity.

Relationships progress, especially as there are children involved. The gaze is supposed to shift from one another to a greater good. The husband and wife relationship should take priority over outside commitments. But while romance is wonderful, it is only a small part of the overall marital relationship. A “wife” is not a “girlfriend.” She is so much more.

Asking someone who has just found out about her husband’s unfaithfulness to “step back from her anger” and think about whether she is to blame is just plain uncharitable.

For better or for worse… til death. Sounds like your friends think for better or worse, until something better and more exciting comes along. 😦

If a wife completely abandons the “girlfriend” role in the relationship, trouble isn’t far away. Men do the exact same thing when they sit around the house all weekend watching sports. These are great ways to kill a marriage.

Just look at those poll results… Women = 41 - 0 ?

There’s no simply way.

😃 😃 😃

Turning to someone OUTSIDE the marriage is never a solution for fixing a problem INSIDE the marriage.

It is both husband and wife’s responsibility TOGETHER to honestly talk through their issues, rather than bring mortal sin on their souls. There are unlimited resources for us to seek help.

Why do you think it is impossible that the women on this board have not engaged in passionate kissing with someone other than their spouse? How can you say there is “no way”? This is an anonymous poll, so people should have no fear of telling the truth.
