Kissing! What's the deal with it?

😦

A couple should go to great lengths not to touch each other until 3 years after the wedding vows have been exchanged, just to make sure. After 3 years, they may hold hands…briefly, and in the privacy of their own home. After the 6th year anniversary, a slight kiss on the cheek is acceptable, but only in rare circumstances. After ten years have passed, a kiss on the lips, though distasteful, should be allowed. A married couple shoun never do anything more intimate than a slight kiss on the lips. No. Never. Not a chance.

Please read with a sense of humor in mind.
Then how can you explain the children? 😃

Love does not start at first sight. That would be lust.
Love takes time to grow, you have to get to know the person, see them in different situations, with different people, how they relate to those in service positions, how they relate to children, to animals, how they handle disappointment, setbacks, how they express anger . … all important issues.
Love at first sight is a Hollywood fantasy which does all young people a disservice.
WELL SAIDā€¦šŸ‘

Our first kiss went together with our first ā€œI love youā€. In our eyes, they meant the same thing. We would not have wanted our kisses to mean something less than love. Yet it still was a long time till we got from this to the engagement phase.

Recently I was getting to know a person on a Catholic singles site. The person brought up that they don’t kiss on the lips to anyone at any stage of dating until perhaps engagement or marriage. However this person after only 2-3 conversations had no problem talking about sex and how I thought sex would be like. I was like, well how am I supposed to know what it is since I am a faithful Catholic.

What I want to ask people here is this: While dating/courting a person, did you kiss (on the lips) or did you wait till engaged/married? Its my understanding that there is no sin in kissing a person especially if you are romantically attracted to them.

I know a few people who wait till engagement or marriage for kisisng and the thought that comes to me is this: love doesn’t start in a relationship on the marriage day or even the engagement day. It can start even at first sight.
I think kissing is a personal thing and if it incites feelings that are better left for other stages of a relationship then maybe it’s better for that person to wait. Some people have better control then others. 🤷

All pleasure, outside of marriage, that is associated with the creative power, that is directly willed or desired, and intentionally acted upon, is a mortal sin.

What?

I better tell my Catholic boyfriend that kissing is a sin! 😃

As in high school dances, leave room for the Holy Spirit! šŸ˜›

Exactly. The Church doesn’t leave it to one’s dicretion. The path is very narrow.

Sure, but you have to draw a line somewhere as regards ā€œassociated.ā€ A nice dinner and a bouquet of flowers and be ā€œassociatedā€ with sex, in a certain sense. If the Church doesn’t categorically forbid pre-marital kissing, then it certainly remains a legitimate option. As does its absence.

If that is the way you feel, you and I are never going to have dinner and I even see you come near my house carrying flowers, I will lock the door. šŸ™‚

In my mind and from my experience, I know exactly what the church forbids.

So the Church teaches that any sign of affection between two unmarried people is wrong? Then my mom must be in Hell for kissing my boo-boos when I got hurt. Is that you are implying? You insult my momma, and this girl gets her ire up.

Get real.

This has to be a troll. Or someone with an axe to grind. Maybe they got rejected too much when they were little? If this a real person: get out of the uber-Catholic world and live life. You are driving people away from the Church you say you love. I know you are driving me away. People like you are the reason I can’t stand most religious people, and I’m ashamed to call myself Catholic. Because then people assume I must be like that. shudder

I’ll be kissing and holding hands with my boyfriend when I see him next week. And you will be still judging and acting like you are miserable person.

waits to be condemned to Hell

Rant over. It probably wasn’t worth it, but it felt good. I hate Pharisee-type people.
This forum used to be have fun people, not it is taken over by Cath-bots who are hurting my faith. Thank you all. At least I met my boyfriend on here. One good thing, lol.

There is nothing wrong with kissing someone for whom you have sincere feelings! What kind of over-scrupulous person decided that, anyway? Pretty soon, we’ll all be walking around wearing helmets and facemasks so we won’t be able to deliver a lip-lock.

If a guy (or gal) is afraid (or reluctant) to give a kiss to a prospective sweetheart, there’s something wrong.

Thank you for the song request!

I personally think kissing a boyfriend/girlfriend/family member/pet isn’t wrong.

I’m waiting for MtnDwellear to condemn me. prepares stone proof shield

Read my posts. I never mentioned the word kiss. Affection between two unmarried people is great. It is necessary. Don’t read in things that I didn’t say. Your comment toward your mother seems disrepectful. I did not insult anyone’s mother. Is your ire up for another reason?
Get real.
Huh? I am about as real as one can get.

I am not the troll. I don’t make up the rules. St. Alphonsus, The Doctor of Morality of the Universal Church, made that one up. Cafeteria Catholics often choose not to follow the morality given to us from the saints. The saints were here to give us help and guidance. If knowing the truth turns you away from the Church - You can’t handle the truth! I am not at all ashamed to admit that I am trying to live a moral chaste life.

Thanks for sharing that bit of your personal life. That sounds like it should be a lot of fun. You are wrong about my plans for next week. I am riding to Florida with some friends to check out a new drop zone. It should be great! I am sure your week will be fun too. šŸ™‚

This is a loaded thread and a loaded question. There are so many contextual issues and assumptions behind folks’ views of relationships that the conversation almost has to get a bit ugly. This is particularly true given the times we live in when a kiss is often not just a kiss (although it could be).🤷

I will have fun! I’m going overseas to see him. And I’m not going to refuse to stand less than 10 feet away from him. If I wanted to do that, I wouldn’t fly 16 hours.

I can assure you that I’m not a cafeteria Catholic, even my priest (from my hometown) said that chaste kissing is alright. I follow the teachings of the Church, even the ones I hate. But I refuse to compromise my personality to fit a mold.

I know where my mom is (Heaven). She was a wonderful woman and fun Catholic (we need more of those). In July will be two years since she passed away. She was my rold model, Catholics can be interesting and non-judgemental.

Has anyone else ever wondered how in the world humans decided that something as unsanitary as pressing our lips together is pleasurable?

Oh and I couldn’t find a better definition/link except for the world’s most reliable source:

I pray that you have a safe and enjoyable trip. When you get there - Remember to leave room for the Holy Spirit!! šŸ‘

Your mother sounds great. May she rest well.

You just got me thinking about fun Catholics, or the lack there of… None of my close friends are Catholics. I never thought about it. The guys I am riding with are good moral men. They join me in prayer before we start jumping and after to thank God for keeping us safe. Then, they usually ride around looking for strip bars while I find a gym or an AA meeting. LOL It’s all good.
