Hi there.
I visited a parish out of town on Sunday.
The parishioners were instructed to kneel from the Procession to the First Reading.
I thought it odd that they were kneeling during the time the priest was chatting and greeting.
The confetior seemed okay on knees though.

I asked at the end, and the deacon said it was the “custom of the local parish.”
I thought kneeling was saved for worship during the liturgy.
It was really weird to be kneeling while the priest was talking.

Never seen it done in the ordinary form, though you would traditionally kneel for the prayers at the beginning of mass in the extraordinary form. This includes the confiteor and kyrie. Perhaps it is a leftover form that tradition?

Okay, that works for me.
What about kneeling while the priest is talking to you? Perhaps an oversight?

The Anglican Ordinariate form also includes a lot more kneeling than the OF- including, if memory serves, during the beginning of mass.

Custom?

Yet they had to be instructed to do so?

Sounds weird to me.

I’m not sure since I wasn’t there. Just from the little bit you have describe, I would agree that it would be an odd juxtaposition to be kneeling and have someone chatting away. On the other hand if the priest was offering a solemn prayer then it wouldn’t phase me a bit. Then again I’m of the persuasion that I think we should kneel in humility and supplication a lot more then we do, but that’s just me. 😉
