i know kreator, slayer, and exodus all have some blasphemous and even satanic material in some of their music, but i was wondering if it would be acceptable as a catholic to skim through their music and only listen to their non-blasphemous songs, or should they be avoided completely?

Which spirit leads them, the Holy Spirit, or some other? If it is some other, then you are exposed to the leading of that spirit whenever you expose yourself to such material. You are in the spiritual realm. Choose wisely.

I used to listen to them years ago alot and had their cds

When i found my faith in God i gave up all that music and am glad i did

we dont need that music in our lives,it may take time to give it up but i believe our souls will feel better without being polluted by that stuff

maybe u could search for some spiritual priests to ask for their opinion on the matter

an experiment once had a nice plant or flower placed next to a stereo with Metal playing and the plant withered ,but next to classical music the plant did not die

i believe that kind of metal makes our souls wither also,a priest told me once not to listen to it because it goes deep into the soul

another very spiritual priest said it will take you straight to hell

Peace

Is it a sin? I don’t know. Ask different priests, get different answers. I can speak from experience, though, that when I stopped listening to that kind of music and even lighter rock music, on a regular basis, I felt more peaceful. I think (and this is purely my opinion) that once we get used to rhythms in music our minds begin to go along with it, sort of like if you watch TV too much you might have trouble focusing on a book. But that’s just me. 🙂
