I agree about Manila and Bangkok traffic. Their rush hour is way worse than LA’s. HK, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur not quite as bad but still worse than LA.

I’ll throw in a vote for Jakarta, that was a nightmare not made easier by the taxi mafia there.

Thailand has some very bad traffic, they sell little porta potties you can keep in your car.
Yes, the worst traffic I’ve ever seen was in Bangkok. I spent some time there a few years back. It was amazing. I made up my mind that there was nothing that could get me to drive in Bangkok. Or even take a cab.

SF is bad, and add to that the fact that one cannot drive one km. straight on many SF streets.

I’m surprised more people don’t use 2 wheeled transport. A motorcycle taxi was the only reliable way to get across Bangkok, since they can navigate through and around most traffic jams.

Yes. I loved watching young women ride sidesaddle on the motorcycle taxis, sitting primly and decorously as the bike weaved through some of the most insane traffic on the planet.

On the other hand, I once saw a woman holding an infant on the back of a motorcycle. That should not have happened.

Oh yes, that’s terrifying. That should never happen (and neither should riding sidesaddle). I’ve got something like 400,000 miles on a motorcycle under my belt. You wouldn’t believe some of the dumb stuff I’ve seen people do on motorcycles.

You want to see motorbike-dominated traffic? Check out Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (formerly Saigon). I never saw so many motorbikes and scooters in my life as in the main district there. At some points, waiting for the traffic to subside before crossing the street could have you waiting all day. What the locals do and I learned from their examples, is step out into the street and walk slowly but at a steady pace and trust the bikers to see and drive around them. smh … That city is headed for deep traffic trouble should even a small portion of those people become well off enough to obtain cars.

Oh, I know (although I’ve never been to Vietnam). In the developing world, the motorbike is often the family car, and the whole family will ride on the bike, together, which is usually a pretty small bike. And the concept of right-of-way is, to say the least, different than it is in the developed world.

Personally, I think the worst are the mini-bus drivers. I often wonder if some of them are possessed.
