Vandals have inscribed “666” in a Los Angeles church in what police have called a “hate crime”.

I suspect you’ll find the culprits to be ’ stupid ’ teenagers and very far from a true hate crime.
And yet absolutely no one in the secular media would be that charitable if it happened to any other faith than RC.

THIS IS MY CHURCH! It’s not in Los Angeles. It’s in the city of Maywood, which is a suburb of Los Angeles. I grew up there. My Dad grew up there. This church is where my parents attended Mass, met, and were married. I was baptized there, received the Eucharist, was Confirmed, and married. I am absolutely heartbroken. I am crying so hard right now. I can’t even think straight. I don’t live in Maywood anymore and haven’t lived there for quite some time, but this will always be my church.

These are NOT vandals! Vandals go into a church and wreck things for fun. These people went far beyond that. They shoved a knife into a painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe, into her head. They TOOK A CROSS AND TURNED IT UPSIDE DOWN! They painted “666”!!!

This is Satanic. These people worship Satan. This was not tagging, graffiti and a few chairs thrown through a window.

The parish hall sustained most of the damage. It was once the church and that is where my parents were married.

My stomach hurts. I never ever even dreamed that such a thing would happen to my beloved St. Rose of Lima Church!

Please, let us pray for the priests, sisters, students, faithful, and the people who broke in and inflicted such damage.

Dear God, how could this happen?

I think this goes beyond vandalism. I think it is truly a hate crime. Ordinary vandals trash the place, they don’t stop to acknowledge Satan in the process.

I agree.

The population of Maywood is about 95 percent Hispanic - and I mean from Mexico specifically. Sticking a knife into any painting, drawing, or whatever that shows the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, especially where her head is painted, drawn, or whatever is tantamount to taking a knife and shoving it into one’s own mother’s head. There is a great amount of respect paid to Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico and in Hispanic communities in the US.

It isn’t done. This was Satanic. There were three obvious Satanic messages left: the “666,” the inverted cross, and the knife in the painting.

I can’t believe that any Hispanic person would do this. Not to a Catholic church. And not to Our Lady of Guadalupe. And not to the church where one’s one mother attends Mass.

Just to clear something up: The kitchen in the school was probably not vandalized, though this has been reported. The school kitchen is on the second floor. I don’t think anyone would ignore the classrooms and go up the stairs to a room which isn’t that easy to find. I believe the damage was done to the kitchen in the parish hall. It’s easy to find and it’s very large.

Of course it is a HATE crime-why do seculars attempt to trivialize every crime against the Church? This wasn’t drunk teens;this was diabolical Hate.
If this happened at a synagogue or a mosque I doubt anyone would be blaming this on “teens” and calling it anything LESS than a hate crime.

How would you define a “hate crime”? It appears to me that the following provide evidence of a hate crime and/or Satanism:

the number 666
the “stabbing” of Our Lady of Guadalupe
the defecation
the cross inverted
a substantial amount of trashing
crime committed in a mostly Hispanic community in a Catholic church

Would you call this vandalism? What would it take to make it a hate crime?

Thank you! I think you’re the only one in this thread that saw that I was hurting. I’m now to the point where I’ve accepted what happened and I am sure that the Catholic community will join together to repair the damage that insurance can’t cover (I mean the attack on the Catholic Faith). These people really love God and God’s Church. I know they are hurting but they will be OK.

I am more concerned about the people who did this. Their eternal souls are in great danger.

I was talking to my sister last night on the phone. We were both really upset and then she told me she had read about a man who was at the beach and saw what appeared to be a satanic parody of the Mass. He wasn’t Catholic and he wondered why the satanists were mocking a Catholic Mass. So he checked into Catholicism and lo and behold, he became a Catholic.

There does seem to always be a silver lining. This will make the Catholic community in Maywood much stronger. They will pull together. I wish I could be there. It is such a beautiful church with lots of stained glass and a rose window. I can still remember the aroma of the incense and the polish on the pews and the singing of Pange Lingua.

This is not a hate crime, the real hate crime is when some Catholic say something against homosexuals
No, words alone are not a crime, at least not in the US. Now, if some Catholic were to utter something against homosexuals, and immediately punched in the face someone he thought was homosexual, that would be a hate crime.

I’m sorry. I cannot imagine having my Parish violated as yours was. This must hurt you so profoundly, I feel hurt as well.

Prayers for you and your Parish. I hope justice will be served.

I can’t imagine the pain of the parishoners. It distresses me personally when I hear of any Church,Catholic or non-Catholic,or for that matter Synagogue or Mosque that is profaned especially in such a diabolical way.If it happened at MY Church I can only imagine how I’d feel.You.your fellow parishoners, clergy and the perpetrators of this obscenity are in my prayers.

I know that, my post was just some kind of black humor. Something similar happened in my city and only local media were reporting about it. On the other side, when some priest say something against homosexuals it is all over national media, human rights activists are protesting like some kind of genocide occurred.
