Referencing the article, I wonder if a sample size of 1000 is truly enough to give us such a “definite” answer?? Just curious…

This whole thread has been very helpful to me. I attempted to breastfeed my first, didn’t even try with my second, but i’m gonna try again with #3. I went to my first La Leche League meeting last night even though baby isn’t due until late February. I want to get to know the group so I’ll feel comfortable coming to them for advice and if I should have problems. The ladies were so nice. And, often I do think that LLL people or those who strongly promote breastfeeding do NOT do it as a way to make those who don’t breastfeed feel inadequate. In a culture and society that does little besides the token “Breastmilk is best…” statement on breastfeeding, it’s important to promote it as much as possible.

Obviously, since I didn’t breastfeed my first two, I’d be the last to say it’s a bad mother who doesn’t breastfeed, but I’d also lie if I said I didn’t sometimes wish I had…

Thanks for sharing all the experiences, though…

My sis was breastfed until she left for kindergarten… and has eczema something terrible!!
I don’t have any moral issue with bottle-feeding. I just wonder, why not breastfeed unless you can’t (for any number of reasons)?
Does anyone think it is bad/gross to pump to drink your own breastmilk, or pump and feed it to the rest of the family? I read this in a secular parenting magazine…

why choose man-made formula made from cow’s milk when you can get the stuff specifically designed for humans for free?
Free?! I’ve seen breast pumps for upwards of $120. Then there are storage bags, botles, nipples, those little leak pad things to keep your shirts dry, nursing bras, nursing clothes, etc., etc. Sure, you don’t HAVE to have all that stuff…IF you are a SAHM who doesn’t work 8 hours a day, with commute time added onto that. But how is a mom who works going to do it without at least some of that stuff? Free just ain’t so.

With #1, I teased the only other woman in our company that since there were no outlets in the women’s bathroom, and the only office in the place with a door was the president’s, I’d be going in there several times a day and asking him to leave his office so I could pump. Maybe that is why I have such a severe dislike for “open architecture”.
