I like to wear a little powder and lipgloss, nothing else. I have very oily skin–still have acne at 30 years old!–so anything more makes me feel greasy and uncomfortable. Interestingly enough, my husband has told me repeatedly that he does not like makeup and would prefer me not to wear it. I’m very curious to know if men feel this way in general or if it’s just him!

As for perfume, I’ve never found a scent that I liked. I much prefer bath gels and lotions.

Like both makeup and perfume. Wear them both. My husband gets to pick out the perfume. He does a fabulous job.

I do go to the gym every morning before work with no makeup. What’s the point? I am there to sweat not to worry about an even skin tone.

No makeup, no perfume. I do, on occasion, colour my hair.

I’ve never liked makeup & could never be bothered to learn to apply it on a daily basis. I’ve used it on stage when in plays but otherwise, nope. Can’t even stand lipstick, it looks awful on me.

I also can’t stand perfume on myself – after a few minutes I find I smell like wet cloth diapers. I don’t know if it’s all in my head or if I have weird body chemistry, all I know is that I smell much better to myself with nothing but the clean smell of soap.😃

I used to hate lipstick too, until I found ‘Benefit’…it’s a new line. I just love it. :o

If I could get away without wearing makeup, I would in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I have second-stage rosacea.

Makeup makes me feel like myself again. When I put it on and make all the awful, sore, red patches on my face vanish, it’s like a wee miracle every day.

I don’t wear make-up - the main reason is that it makes my eyes water and causes my nose to get stuffy. I assume I’m probably allergic to the perfumes or something that go into it.

I was interested in it for a short period of time when I was a teenager, but my mother was hospitalized for a year, and I never really had anyone around to teach me how to use it properly - my Dad thought I was too young for it, and most of the girls my age who were using it were not really friends of mine - my friends were more the hippy types who preferred to go all natural - so although I had an interest in it, I was never really able to follow through on it - and then I realized I was allergic to it, anyway, so that was the end of that.

When I got married, I married a hippy, so the issue of make-up never even came up when we were dating. I wore make-up for the wedding, and took an anti-histamine to keep from getting stuffed up from it, to please my mother (because she always wanted me to wear make-up) but nowadays I don’t even wear it for special occasions. 🤷

I’m in a job where wearing make up would look a bit silly! I do use a really good moisturiser though and take good care of my skin, which you could say was vain, but I think my skin is exposed to the elements a bit more than the average woman’s.

I wear perfumes that I like the smell of!

However, the last time a man paid me a compliment on my perfume, I wasn’t actually wearing any: it was the product I put on my hair to control the friz:D It took me a while to convince him I wasn’t wearing perfume and eventually, when it dawned on me what it was, I had to convince him by waving a lock of hair under his nose:) He still thought it was really lovely (:confused:which was nice - actually!)

If I am going somewhere really special, I might wear a bit - but if you have pale skin, dark hair and blue eyes, finding anything to suit is almost impossible! You either look like you have been embalmed, or turn orange:eek:

Funny you mention autistic kids and makeup. My 9 yr old autistic son always notices my makeup, and LOVES to watch me put it on. He actually will go get my mascara and give it to me (which is his way of telling me to out it on) because I think it makes my eyes more defined and easier for him to look at.
Just goes to show us how different our special ones are! I love that yours notices, you are doing a great job being in his world! Prayers!

Very rarely do I wear more than mascara, to a wedding or other such special event. I never was a glamour girl and just don’t see the need.

Yes, I do, but not on a consistent basis. I have pretty good skin, so I save my little stash of makeup for the bad days, or for special occasions.

Or for those days when I don’t particularly need it and there isn’t any particular occasion but I just want to feel extra pretty. 😃

I do wear make-up, but I also have days when I don’t wear it, especially if my skin is having a good day. I have very oily skin and I break out, so having something to even out my skin tone and covering up acne scars is a help. But I don’t like anything too heavy because, especially in the summer, I produce enough oil on my face to support the US. hahaha! (At least that’s what it feels like.)

In regular day life, just a little foundation or just some powder, a little blush if I didn’t get much sleep and look pale, some lip gloss or chapstick to keep my lips from being dry and a little eye makeup. Including my shower, getting dressed, drying my hair and makeup and depending on how tired I am in the morning, it might take about 15-20 minutes all together. So, I don’t find that too bad.

For my professional life, it’s a slightly different. I have to look like a classy lady. I’ve got to dress classy and look like a class act. It’s a joke about “putting on our face”. So, I might use lipstick, a tad more eye makeup and a little more blush. When I’m on stage for concerts or recital, the makeup has to be more dramatic, which looks great from far away, but it’s too heavy for my taste, although there are lots of women who wear that amount of makeup in real life. For actual operas - now you look like a clown because everything is bigger than life so that people in the last row can see your face and expressions. I’m olive complexion so I’m not light, but you have to use foundation that is much darker than your skin tone so that you don’t look like a ghost under the lights. I always break out horribly after a production from all the heavy makeup and extreme oily skin from singing and the lighting.

I’m not really a perfume person because in the singer’s world it is often discouraged due to close quarters and many people with allergies which can seriously affect another singer’s ability to perform. I actually can’t handle most perfumes myself (headaches), but I’ve found the natural oil scents are the best for me in regards to allergies. There are no chemicals in it so they have never bothered me and smell more… well… natural. haha!

I answered NO, although I would say RARELY

I work at home by myself all day. Don’t see many people other than those at the post office.

My husband loves me with or without make up, he likes me without it more when I do buy makeup (I buy Clinique so it is pricy)

I do wear make up when we go to church, out to dinner, or somewhere where I will see people I know.

Other than that, just moisturizer is all I need.

I wear makeup–although I’m ok without it, I know I look better with a little concealer and powder. 😛

I also want to second what Em said! 👍 I’ve known (and been myself) on all sides of the for and against makeup issue. You can be a vain person whether or not you wear it–makeup itself is morally neutral.

I mostly do not wear it. I have ultra sensitive skin, and any different type of chemical can set it off in blotches and blemishes. I wear a preferred formula make up set for special occasions only, usually worn nice or natural. Nothing fancy. Never wore it for lectoring or EM, no need, maybe on Christmas some years.

I don’t know about you, but I was taught that you are not to wear make-up in our religion because it promotes giving off a scandalous message. In grade school I got caught putting on chapstick, yes, chapstick, and was scolded for it. We were allowed one day to put it on for pictures.

***Interesting you say that, Hope…growing up, I was not permitted to wear any makeup…not even clear gloss or nailpolish, until junior year in high school. I guess that’s why I don’t wear much now, plus too much hurts my eyes. :o

But, that ‘message’ was pretty much drilled into my head, too. 🤷***

I am catholic, I am a financial specialist, therefore I do need to wear some makeup. Nobody says I have to but it is expected. I actually like it a lot, especially when I am tired since it brightens up my face. I don’t believe there is any harm or is too materialistic to wear make up or perfume. My friends are always asking me to put their make up on since I am guessing I am kinda good at it. It makes my girlfriends happy!!! that’s a good thing, don’t you think?

I agree. That is interesting. When I was Catholic grade school until the 8th grade, we were also not allowed to wear makeup or colored nail polish. They did permit clear nail polish and chapstick, though. I think that was a good thing. I remember you’d get conduct slips if they did catch you with makeup and colored polish. Gosh, it has been years since I thought about that.

I wear some make up… some days I only wear a bit of concealer, and on other days I also add blush, lip-gloss, and mascara. If I’m going out somewhere special, I wear eye liner. The main reason I wear make up is because I look very pale and tired when I get up in the morning. I have circles under my eyes lol. That’s because I’m always studying or doing something in the evening, and don’t get enough sleep.

However, over the summer, I think God “challenged” me during prayer to not wear makeup for a while, to get rid of some vanity. It was kind of hard at first, but I got used to it, and now I’m more comfortable with not wearing makeup, or wearing only a bit.

YEP, ditto. Only clear polish, too. Chipped nail polish and dirt accumulating under the nail was not (and still is not) considered good grooming. So if the rules applied to everyone. No one could complain about it. I put it on for necessity for a big event, I do the typical things, like get my hair done and buy a new outfit for a wedding or Banquet, but if it is just another day, why bother?

Maybe you are a make-up artist at night? We all have an artistic vice, right? I think it’s fine if it makes you feel good and refreshed. My artistic vice is airbrushing, when I eliminate crows feet from photographs, I used to relate this to age, but when I air brush the same people, I realize that they do not always have them, and then realize that the crows feet may be in part to sleep time as well, which floors me because so many people spend money getting an eye/brow life to pep up and look alert.

Having a huge business/office work past, it was recommended to dress professional, and be well groomed, that included women putting on their face everyday. The general consensus is when you look good, you feel good, you are confident, and other people are confident in you and/or your service/product.
