Lady Gaga outrages Catholics during Holy Week with new single 'Judas'

I followed the link and my first thought was, “That poofy thing on her left shoulder kinda makes her look like a hunchback.”

:yawn: Ehh. Madonna will always be the grandmaster (mistress?) of inciting Catholic outrage, in my opinion, although Gags does get props for the Holy Week bit.

That’s so funny - when I see a new Gaga antic, I always think she’s just reinventing Madonna’s wheel!
 
My faith is bolstered when I see contrary indicators like this.

Lady Gaga and Madonna are on the side of evil. When they mock or ridicule the Catholic Church I am relieved. I know that I am on the other side - the side of Jesus Christ.
 
I certainly don’t approve of what Lady Gaga does with Catholic images and her abuse of Catholic culture, but in a back handed sort of way she compliments the Catholic Church with her antics. After all, if Catholic imagery was not powerful or moving and filled with meaning, she would not use it at all. We are shocked by her use of “our” imagery, and rightfully so, but at least we know that our signs and images are effective. Can you imagine Madonna or Lady Gaga using, say, Methodist imagery in their music? Can you, yourself, think of something which might actually be a Methodist image? Anyway, Lady Gaga is a fad and soon she’ll move on to some other imagery once the public has grown tired of being shocked. That’s entertainment (for some)!
 
Mostly I try not to give these people energy. They’re only hurting themselves.

I try not to give these people too much energy either, but when you work in a Jr. or Sr. High School as I do, these people and their actions can’t be ignored. Students find Lady Gaga captivating, in part precisely because she is so iconoclastic and daring in her use of respected religious images. The question that teachers face is how to put these entertainers into perspective for our students. The difficult part is to offer a critique of these entertainers without seeming to be a mere reactionary and thereby raising the estimation the students have for the entertainer. It doesn’t work to stand on a stage and insist that Lady Gaga is a poor model because she abuses religious imagery. We have to engage with Lady Gaga somehow and allow the students to come to their own awareness of what she is doing. I’m not sure how you do this, but you can’t just ignore her. She isn’t going away, at least not in the minds of the students, and she is an influence on youth which must be confronted.

Personally, I find her and others like her nauseating and not worth my time to be getting upset over. Our Lord and our Church are far more powerful than she is. Making a ruckus over her just gives her “power” because it detracts away from the good. There will always be someone (celebrity) that “pushes the envelope” to offend people. Be it a rap star with misogynistic lyrics or whatever kind of “music performer” Gaga is.

They want you to be outraged, upset, and make a scene over it. It’s like a bully…most of the time, you can ignore them and they finally give up. Just pray for her and find a way to better promote the things and “celebrities” that don’t offend the Church.

I can’t imagine why anyone would rush to buy this song. Even if the names were changed and it was a song about something secular, I would still find it atrocious. I find most of her songs catchy and the beats very dance-oriented, but this one is just…ick!

Because some extremists in the Middle East would start killing people in their own village…or the ones here in the US would target her with a suicide bomb.

I was going to say the same thing with regards to the Moslems. If she did anything in her ‘act’ that mocks Islam, she’d have a fatwa placed on her head so fast that she wouldn’t know what hit her!

Catholics always seem to be fair game for people like Lady Gaga and Madonna.

I think I’ve heard of her somewhere. Mediocre talent that needs supplementing with shocking antics and attire to generate attention, right?

Either that, or the extremists would start killing off entire villages in the Middle East because she mocked Islam.🤷
 
According to the time stamps on these replies, it only took a little more than 12 hours for a thread about Lady Gaga to turn into “discussion” about Islam. C’mon, people, that’s way too slow; CAFers can do a lot better than that!

It’s politically correct and perfectly acceptable for celebrities and others to mock Christianity of any sort, even though they wouldn’t dream of doing it to Islam or even Buddhism.

THAT’s how it turned into a “discussion” about Islam. Apparently you didn’t know that the last acceptable prejudice in the Western world was Christianity, or more specifically, Catholicism.
Did you forget about the rioting and murders a few weeks ago in the Middle East because a fundamentalist pastor in Florida burned a koran?

Gaga and others offend those they can get away with offending and in North America (and most of Europe), Catholics are fair game and no one in the secular world seems to be too concerned about it, but if someone “mock” Islam, you can be assured the secular media would start of a holy war of their own!

Well, Jesus was crucified. Not Buddha. Not Muhammed. Therefore, his Church will also be crucified. The servant is no better than the master.
