It’s politically correct and perfectly acceptable for celebrities and others to mock Christianity of any sort, even though they wouldn’t dream of doing it to Islam or even Buddhism.

THAT’s how it turned into a “discussion” about Islam. Apparently you didn’t know that the last acceptable prejudice in the Western world was Christianity, or more specifically, Catholicism.
Did you forget about the rioting and murders a few weeks ago in the Middle East because a fundamentalist pastor in Florida burned a koran?

Gaga and others offend those they can get away with offending and in North America (and most of Europe), Catholics are fair game and no one in the secular world seems to be too concerned about it, but if someone “mock” Islam, you can be assured the secular media would start of a holy war of their own!
Surely you’re not suggesting that offended Christians burn down concert halls or make fools of themselves by blowing up piles of Lady Gaga CD’s on the 50 yard line of our football stadiums? What Muslims do when they are religiously offended has nothing to do with what we, as Christians, should do.

Oh gosh, no! I hope no one thought that I was implying that we should riot in the streets. The person I was responding to was being quite sarcastic about the fact that someone brought Islam into the thread and was implying that every thread gets “hijacked” with a comment about the evils of Islam. I was simply stating that you didn’t see Christians carrying on like that when someone mocks our religion. It’s not Islam the media are threatened by, it’s Christianity; otherwise, they would live it alone.

The 25-year-old artist, who was raised Catholic

I cringe whenever I see these words. To me, they connote a failure of upbringing, someone who was raised to think church is a boring thing we do out of guilt on Sundays and try to ignore the rest of the week. Parents, this is our clarion call to raise or kids in faith, hope and love. Let your faith be imbued in all you do all the week.

Well, as a highschool student, I can assure you that the current perception of Lady Gaga is that she is insane. 🙂 Along with anyone who could possibly enjoy her music.America’s teenagers have spoken!! XO

I, for one, will not underestimate the impact she might have on the mentally disturbed or unbalanced souls who flirt with the dark side anyway. Every soul is important to Satan!

We do not know the state of her soul nor whether or not she is on the side of evil.

We can only objectively say, that she has some childhood issues that she is getting out through her music.

God help Lady Ga Ga.
As stated previously, she is hurting herself more than others.
Lets pray for her this easter.
By the way, I’d shudder to think, as is the case with “Stairway to heaven”, what this song has to say if played backwards.
Its bad enough played forwards.

I didn’t realize you spoke for all of America’s teenagers. Be that as it may, many teenagers in Japan, including the girls I teach in a Catholic school, are enthralled to Lady Gaga. They think she is cool. Why? Don’t ask me, I don’t share their opinion. But, if I am going to talk to these students about their view of Lady Gaga and her abuse of Catholic imagery, I need to find a better approach than “Don’t listen to her! She’s crazy!”

Lady Gaga is really beginning to get on my nerves. I am honestly getting tired of hearing about her. I mean, she is obviously anti-Catholic or she wouldn’t have released this blasphemous song during Holy Week. That said, I do hope and pray that she would return home to the Catholic Church.

Can we please let the Lady Gaga thread just die and have a blessed Good Friday?

God bless

Mostly I try not to give these people energy. They’re only hurting themselves.
That is not true. They are also leading astray some who are not grounded in their faith with their blasphemous and sacreligious antics. That’s why the crucifix and even rosaries are worn now as a fashion statement. When you mock the church you are mocking Jesus Christ himself. Does “Saul why do you persecute me?” ring a bell?

I certainly don’t approve of what Lady Gaga does with Catholic images and her abuse of Catholic culture, but in a back handed sort of way she compliments the Catholic Church with her antics. After all, if Catholic imagery was not powerful or moving and filled with meaning, she would not use it at all. We are shocked by her use of “our” imagery, and rightfully so, but at least we know that our signs and images are effective. Can you imagine Madonna or Lady Gaga using, say, Methodist imagery in their music? Can you, yourself, think of something which might actually be a Methodist image? Anyway, Lady Gaga is a fad and soon she’ll move on to some other imagery once the public has grown tired of being shocked. That’s entertainment (for some)!
I don’t know. Protestants are not very big on imagery. They have no statues in their churches and few paintings if any. There is no Christ on their version of the cross, it’s only a bare cross. So it would be difficult to find Protestant imagery. Perhaps pictures of Martin Luther or Calvin?

Duh! It’s an old thread, I fell for it. :doh2:
