Thanks a lot, ringil and CMatt25, for your enlightening discussion about demographics and psychology of Catholics here are CAF. I have been quite preplexed and taken aback by the merciless, and often unthinking, conservatism by quite a few posters around here. That conservatism sometimes even goes against Catholic values, especially on social teaching of the Church (the subsidiarity principle is fine, but it is often used as an excuse for justifying bad policy and social thinking).

In other words, many here actually think for themselves and challenge the status quo to reach the truth. Whether they agree with any of those things or not, the people who put forth those idea are at least thinking.
Believing the Earth is 6000 years old is ‘thinking for yourself’? No, it is plain ignorance.

I wonder if everyone here is aware that the Church did not “completely throw out the window”, as some people like to put it, the canon law regarding abstinence on Friday. It’s still there. Look for your selves, those who didn’t know:
Can. 1250 The penitential days and times in the universal Church ***are every Friday of the whole year ***and the season of Lent.
Can. 1251 Abstinence from eating meat or some other food according to the prescripts of the conference of bishops is to be observed on ,of abstinence binds those who have completed their fourteenth year of age. The law of fasting, however, binds all those who have attained their majority until the beginning of their sixtieth year. Nevertheless, pastors of souls and parents are to take care that minors not bound by the law of fast and abstinence are also educated in a genuine sense of penance.
