Largest Ontario Catholic parents group opposes homosexual clubs in schools

TORONTO, Ontario, August 8, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Ontario’s largest association of Catholic parents has opposed the homosexual “anti-bullying” clubs being developed for Ontario’s Catholic high schools. The group also called on the Toronto Catholic District School Board to pass amendments to its equity policy designed to protect Catholic teaching in the schools.

“We feel that the amendments enhance, strengthen and clarify the document making it more relevant to the diverse student population enjoyed by the TCDSB as well as more faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church,” wrote Darlene Canton on behalf of the Toronto Association of Parents in Catholic Education (TAPCE) in June.

TAPCE is the Toronto affiliate of the Ontario Association of Parents in Catholic Education (OAPCE), which is recognized by the Ontario government as the voice for parents with children in Ontario’s publicly-funded Catholic schools. Canton is an officer with TAPCE and a member of OAPCE’s board of directors.

The Toronto Catholic District School Board’s equity policy, passed earlier this year as part of the Ontario government’s sweeping equity and inclusive education strategy, has sparked an unprecedented mobilization of parents who fear that it will give homosexual activists a foothold in order to further subvert already weak Catholic sexual teaching in the schools.

If only it were the children that these parents were putting first. Apparently the pope comes first.

And of course it couldn’t possibly be THEIR children who are the gay ones suffering bullying, it must be the children of other parents. It is the young gay and bisexual people who will be driven to suicide by far more than any other group. This targeted help should be made available to those young people, specifically on the point of sexuality and identity.

So much for “pro-life”. I hope the other parents ignore these bigoted fascists.

I applaud the parents for taking a stand on this. The whole situation only serves to point out why the government should not be involved in decision making policies for a private parochial school. The whole point of getting a Catholic education is learning and reinforcing Catholic teachings and doctrine. Supporting or encouraging sinful sexual practices has no place in Catholic education. Perversion can never be condoned by the Church. Common civilty in our schools prevails already. There is absolutely no need to add this to the curriculum.

These are CATHOLIC schools and Caesar has no right to supercede Church Teaching. It is the sin that is condemned NOT the sinner.Your post reflects a distasteful bigotry that we as Catholics are subjected to daily in the media.
