Haha! Indeed!

But more seriously, as much as I hate to admit it, I do side with the universal skeptics and existentialists in some respect. If there is no God, they are at least smart enough to see the ramifications of this: i.e. there is no reason for anything, and meaning and truth are sheer illusions. From Nietzsche’s Twilight of the Gods: “I’m afriad we are not rid of God because we still have faith in grammar.” He said this because he knew what must follow if there is no reason for our being: there is no sense to anything at all, even language.
As one poster’s tag line reads “The Ultimate Truth (knowledge of the beginning of time and space) is that there is no Ultimate Truth.” That’s why I don’t understand people’s fascination and respect for famous metaphysicists. They are simply several levels more knowledgable than the average person to a NON-ANSWER (knowledge of the beginning of time and space). Hawking, call me when you figure out Ultimate Truth. Oh, that’s right. Ultimate Truth is unknowable thanks to infinity. There is no answer. So why keep deceiving the public into believing there is one, when we know there isn’t?

Hawking is like a person on the game show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” who has answered all the questions correctly so far, except the last one. If God exists, then he answered the last question wrong and went home as a loser with no money. If God doesn’t exist, then we know he can’t answer the LAST question correctly, because of the concept of a purely godless infinity.

I sometimes wonder if metaphysics, philosophy, and existentialism are micro-evolutionary filters based on selfishness. We arrive at a logical 50/50 choice, then free willingly choose God or no God. Choosing no God is the easier and more selfish path. But choosing God means counter-intuitively free willingly killing our selfishness by handing over our lives to live by the Covenant for behavior. The unselfish raise their kids well, and live to fuel history and the next generation of success.
