In recent years, enrollment at the city’s Catholic schools has dwindled, and one by one they have been closed.

On Wednesday, the Diocese of Metuchen said it was closing the city’s last remaining Catholic school, St. Mary and St. Peter Catholic Academy. Officials said only about 60 students were signed up for classes for the upcoming school year.

This is tragic and so due to funding we sacrifice the 60 to the alter of the Public school system… The archdiocese should have hired a few teachers to facilitate a home school program until enrollment increases.

What does Canada have to do with a school closing in New Jersey?

OK, I’ll cut you some slack, my first reaction on seeing the topic was “Whaaat? There haven’t been any Catholic school in New Brunswick in decades!” Then I realized this was about a city, not a a province.
