LONDON (AFP) – Christians have long celebrated Jesus Christ’s Last Supper on Maundy Thursday but new research released Monday claims to show it took place on the Wednesday before the crucifixion.
Professor Colin Humphreys, a scientist at the University of Cambridge, believes it is all due to a calendar mix-up – and asserts his findings strengthen the case for finally introducing a fixed date for Easter.

Maybe I’ll have to reschedule the Holy Week services! 😃

Pope Benedict addresses this in Jesus of Nazareth (part two) very interesting reading.

I’m not really sure why a scientist would be looking into this, wouldn’t this be a matter more appropriate for historians?

Can’t figure out why this matters. If you celebrate Easter, you celebrate Easter. Same thing with Christmas.

I can see why it matters when we were born, because we turn 18 (or 21, or whatever) on a particular day, not a day or two earlier or later.

And by the way, the Declaration of Independence was signed on July SECOND, not the Fourth.

.
It’s an interesting bit of research, but why it might matter, is that a date for Easter could be set that would be the same every year.

Perhaps the scientists are confused and what they looked at was the next to Last Supper.

Which brings up another question I’ve always had-did Judas skip out on his portion of the check by leaving early?

Actually since Judas was typically in possession of the groups money bag, he might have actually left them to all wash dishes. Maybe the reason the last supper is on the wrong date is the bible not accounting for Christ and the apostles having to spend the next several hours scrubbing dirty plates in order to pay for their meal :D!

Judas was the first person to leave Mass early and look what happened to him! 😃 Another reason why people shouldn’t be leaving mass early!!

irishpatrick: I’m glad you liked it. Our Priest uses this one from time to time during his Homily. Always gets a chuckle and I’m sure some people are pierced by the words.
