LAT: Christian leaders' stance on civil disobedience is dangerous

It was a pretty lame editorial. The LA Times has no qualms about civil disobedience against laws they are against. Greenpeace is probably lauded as ‘brave heroes’ in the LA Times when they go against perfectly lawful whaling ships, and yet there’s no hand-wringing about the dangers of their encouraging eco-terrorists.

I was involved in the civil rights movement in the 1960s and in fact went on several civil rights marches with Martin Luther King. This article strikes out in a way that reminds me of some of the hysterical opposition that I saw in the 1960s against the peaceful civil rights movement of the 1960. But now there is a turnaround, this article comes, it seems, from a liberal opponent to others civil rights.
 
I think a big problem is that society is always trying to RE-kindle things that have worked in the past. We are always looking for the “NEW ________(fill in the blank).”

So in that, “leaders” are always pushing for the most extreme way to do things, in hopes of effecting change in the most drastic and dramatic way possible. Even when it is contrary to its cause.

Exactly…the want to say shut up and stay in your churches, but they didn’t have enough courage

It is up to the church to lead the way…People are hardened now to the murder of innocent lives that goes on by the hr

They loudly proclaim their right to murder, and then try to pretend it is an act of charity…big money is behind abortion…it pays well

Yes I know this article was about gay marriage…we are still voters and have the right to disagree
 
I for one will gladly go out of my way to break any law that enshrines abortion as public tax-funded policy, because I am an American and any such law is unconstitutional violating the fundamental protection of the right to life upon which our constitution and all other law is based. I will also break it because it violates God’s laws, the source of the rights protected by our Constitution.

I am waiting for a resurrection of those sites that promise to guide on in how to properly withhold taxes to keep them being used for immoral purposes, which have been popular in past wars.

In the 50s and 60s my parents went out of their way to violate laws that violated rights of blacks and other minorities. I have relatives who left Germany and Austria because they refused to obey laws that persecuted Jews and other minorities, if I were living in the US in the 1830s-60s I would violated laws that persecuted slaves and protected slavery as an institution. I will do the same if abortion becomes a tax-supported mandate, and you may be sure once it is tax supported it will become mandatory.
 
When our laws are civil…I’ll be obedient.

This was truly inspiring and is the kind of activism needed to change these despicable acts which cloak themselves in the absurd arguement that “It’s legal”. Oh please.

I also strongly support Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd in their quest to stop the slaughter of whales. 👍

Whether the LA Times make a strong statement or a weak one, there is something of greater value here and it is this. Obviously the moral position is making someone very uncomfortable. Why else would it be news?

Lest we forget, the Orthodox Jews did not sign the MD because it was a Christian organization that spear-headed the project. However, regarding this issue, Orthodox Jews are on the same page as us and so are faithful Muslims.

That’s why I say, the moral position is making someone very uncomfortable.

the latimes is run by very antichristian jews who actually support the evils of abortion and homosexuality. we as Catholics have every right to stand up against these acts because their are both of the devil! God Bless

We have to be careful here. Not everyone at the LA Times is Jewish. Second, not all Jews are anti-Christian. And third, the Orthodox Jewish community is very pro-life.
