Latin community in Greensburg

As far as I know, there are no priests from the diocese that are even attempting to say the EF Mass. There are four Benedictines.

Your options right now are to drive to St. Boniface in Pittsburgh, or Queen of Peace in Patton. It depends on where in the diocese you live.
 
While I haven’t updated it for some time, see if you can find it. Yahoo Groups…Greensburg Latin Mass. It’s private, but ask to join. I’ll check it daily. 👍

Hello everyone. I myself am a parishioner of St. Vincent and am learning how to serve the EF Mass. As far as I know (I’ve been on vacation this last week and have thus been out of the loop) Father M. is offering the EF Mass on Monday’s at 10:30AM and Saturdays at 10:30AM. I believe Father Boniface is trying to learn the Mass as well.

I am relatively new to the Latin Mass community so pardon my ignorance, but what does it mean for us now that our petition to Ecclesia Dei has been received?
 
Jacob: I’m the old guy who serves mass occassionaly at St. Vincent. It means that the Commission will review our petition and make a decision. They can reject it or establish a Latin Community, assign a priest and it’s up to us to support it. 👍
 
Fr. Boniface ROCKS! So filled with the Holy Spirit and in love with the Lord. I go to Seton Hill and know a few students from both SHU and SVC that would be interested in the Latin Mass in Greensburg. Please keep us updated!

What would the establishment of a Latin Mass Community ensure? A wider spread availability of the Extraordinary Form?

Is it correct for me to assume from this quote that this may take a while haha?
 
I may look like a professor (?) LOL but I served mass for Fr. Maurus in the Crypt couple of weeks ago. Not important…we’ve met or will meet! And yes it may take a while! It would mean the establishment of a Latin Community or simply having the EF said every week on Sunday at a particular Church. Growth always demands greater recognition such as the Pittsburgh Latin Community at St. Boniface.

I would dearly love to see the Latin Mass celebrated at that beautiful altar at Seton Hill!

Wider, yes. The Diocese of Greensburg is the only place in the See of Philadelphia that doesn’t have one. Even Bishops Troutman and Adamec have them. What does that tell you?

If the Sisters of Charity saw that happening, they would explode. All that would be left of them would be their orthopedic shoes and lapel pins.
 
Silver Thread, sorry I am confusing you with someone else haha.

I never knew that Bishop Brandt was against it, like I said though I am fairly new to the community. 🙂 If anyone wants to give me a rundown of things I should know I’d appreciate it 🙂
 
Fr Cyprian still celebrates the Latin Mass in the Crypt at 11:45 a.m on Fridays. That’s the last info I have had. Unfortunately I work that day and cannot attend. Good luck. Please pray for our efforts to have the Latin Mass in Gbg. Our appeal to Rome has been answered and they request that we show a community and a priest that will celebrate the Latin Mass for us. However Fr. Cyprian may not be considered a “Diocesan” priest in the context of Rome’s request. Pray pray pray…
 
I do pray. Can’t they bring in a priest from the FSSP? They are closing churches in the area. Can’t they use one of those? The bishop in Altoona-Johnstown established a parish dedicated to the Extraordinary form. Can’t they do that in our diocese?

I’m encouraged to see that two of the churches in a local parish returned the tabernacles to the center of the sanctuary where their beautiful old altars used to be. I attended a wedding several days ago, and the couple knelt through most of the ceremony, facing the tabernacle. Usually they sat off to the side. Maybe things are starting to turn back to the traditional, little by little?

Bishop Brandt has used the closing of churches as an excuse for not openiong a church to the Latin Mass. He said “How can I explain opening a church for the Latin Mass while closing so many others”. Now…if you can explain that logic…help me out! We need to form a Latin Community in Greensburg…one that meets regularly to discuss strategy. Any suggestions.? It would help also if we formally filed with the state for 5013c status.
 
hmmm…I tried to join the yahoo group but my computer won’t let me go to the link you supplied because it is a suspected phishing cite…ugh! My husband and I go to the TLM at St. Boniface in Pittsburgh every week but we’d love a Greensburg option since we live much closer to Greensburg and live within the diocese. It’s sad to think that the only priest who’s willing to stick his neck out in the diocese and say he’s willing to say the TLM isn’t actually a diocesan priest! Are there really no priests in the diocese who know or want to learn the TLM?
