Thank you… I don’t know how to change it when downloading. I ran a search and can’t find it, but I think I hit the wrong button. I’m running another search now… let’s see what happens… thanks!

I have a tape with a little boy giving the Latin responses. He puts me to shame, especially the way he rolls his R’s. *"…Arrrrrrrrrchángelo…" *

I’m not much of an R roller myself. 😉

Hi boys and girls!

In my ongoing search for altar boy training resources, I came across this website that has an mp3 of the latin prayers and their responses. For those of you who, like me, think that learning the latin to serve is too daunting a task, check this out. They don’t really say too much! 😃

At the age of 37 I learned the latin prayers and responses to serve a low Mass.

In one year I learned the entire Solemn Mass rubrics to be Master of Ceremonies.

Learning the responses is not hard at all. However it does require PRACTICE.

I started by listening to a tape of the prayers and responses and then memorizing them. It took me about six months before I was able to put down the cheat sheet when serving Mass to say the responses.

Not for the Tridentine Rite, but yes for the Novus Ordo in Latin.
Could you please advise if these can be downloaded, “The Novus Ordo” in Latin?

Today at Mass (Monday) there were the few regulars in all about a dozen. Brother tapped one of the men on the shoulder to assist as an altar boy ( the guy is about 65) and of course he did. The other lad was about 6 maybe a year or two older. I guess the lad rostered was unable to attend for whatever reason…I am so glad that there are many men in the congregation who are old altar boys who can do this function. And no, Brother is disabled and would not be able to assist in the manner required, he is mighty in other areas.

No, they are streaming video from the Vatican website, hence they cannot be downloaded.

Is there somewhere i could find this written. I have learned enough latin that If i see it i can memorize it well enough by understanding what they are saying. Although, becasue i have not listened to latin alot i can not make out what they are saying 100% and i do pronounce my latin somewhat different. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx

Yours in Christ

Nevermind i found a pretty good one all written up if anyone else would like it tell me and ill give the link.

THE PRONUNCIATION OF THOSE RECORDINGS IS HORRIBLE!

How can you americans expect to speak latin with those accents of yours?

When one speaks ecclesiastical latin, he must speak the latin with an italian accent. Read it as if you were reading italian, speak it as if you were speaking italian.

I listened to the first seconds of the recording, and i shuddered. You can tell instantly that it is american.

It’s a good resource though.
I will use it often.

edit you are supposed to ROLL the Rs!

Instead, the stupid altar boy has that horrible american R.

Mary, be quiet. I don’t want to hear it.

If that’s the case, maybe it’s a good thing I couldn’t find it.

Does Italian sound like Spanish? I haven’t heard Italian, but I hear Spanish all the time.

Oh! What about the British, how are they? I’ve got a CD of gregorian chant sung by British, and… oh, I just found the other Latin CD I have… here. I thought it was Allegri’s Miserere mass, but it’s a song by Allegri called Miserere, then a Palestrina mass.

Anyway, my question: Can the British pronounce Latin correctly?

And Greek. Kyrie…

I would imagine so. They have a better accent for european languages than the horrible American.
If they are singing gregorian chant, the odds are that they know what they’re talking (or most probably singing) about.

Listen to Allegri’s Miserere Mei Deus. The choir should pronounce it right.
If you listen to any good choir, they will pronounce it right.

Spanish is not like italian. The Spanish speak horribly fast. Italian relies more on amusing stresses.

The MP3 is good, just don’t rely on their pronunciation.

And Palestrina is awesome. If he weren’t male or dead, i would marry him.
He makes bloody good music.

For a reason which i cannot address now without running the risk of serious confrontation with father-figure, i must make a request of someone out there willing to help me.

Could someone please, who has downloaded this mp3 onto their computer, send it to me via email attatchment?

I cannot right-click on the link and do “save target as”, and i do not have quicktime pro 7, thus i cannot save it by following the link itself.

Please?

Concerning the letter R, how do you feel about the Irish? The Irish say a harder R than the Amerrrrrrricans do (sorrrry).

Why would you want to marry him? If he were married, he wouldn’t have time to compose.

The Irish accent is cool!
I wish I had an Irish accent!
The American accent is a ripoff of the Irish. 'Tis one of the reasons why I don’t approve of the American accent.

He WAS married.
And he still made good music.

The American accent is a ripoff the Irish? No. If anything, it’s a ripoff of the British. According to Bill Bryson’s Made in America (a history of American English), some of the British commented on an American accent during revolutionary times (late 1700s), and George Washington & Co. were mostly British.
He WAS married.

Okay. You win.

By the way, we seem to have taken over this thread… apologies to everybody else. Would anybody like to comment on the Latin Mass Training mp3? (sorry.)
